About you and this role: Dow has an exciting opportunity available within our Product Safety Research group that is part of our Toxicology and Environment Research & Consulting (TERC) Team. The location is in Midland, Michigan as this role is aligned to the laboratory where investigative research is conducted to ensure the sustainability of our chemistries. Specifically, we are looking for an Analytical Chemist with experience and training in chemistry, toxicology, or a related field. The candidate will work closely with TERC scientists in food contact evaluations including migration testing to meet regulatory requirements for safer materials. This is a laboratory-based position, and the successful candidate is expected to be actively involved in assigned studies, research initiatives and will engage in cross-functional teams to have the highest performance in daily activities. Activities include experimental design, conduct, troubleshooting and reporting of the assigned scientific challenge. Responsibilities: Provides science leadership and hands-on experience in conducting laboratory research studies, including the design, conduct, validation, interpretation and reporting on quantifying substances in food contact assessments Conducts food contact research and testing studies with guidance and instruction from senior level leaders and individual contributors Provides support for instrument set up, maintenance, and troubleshooting, including working with vendors Leads study team and leverages broader expertise to deliver high quality scientific results that are aligned with business and regulatory needs Understand migration test methods Develops and implements technical solutions through hands-on experimentation/problem solving for investigative research Documents study results as a final report according to the business request, statement of work, study protocol and report templates Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, Product Stewardship and Product Regulatory Provides clear, concise communications both internally and externally including publications and presentations Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior chemists and laboratory staff Stay updated on the latest scientific research and regulatory changes in the field of food contact materials Understands and follows appropriate EH&S standards, policies, and procedures applicable to their job. Leads by example in safety behaviors and promotes safe work habits Required qualifications: A minimum of a bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Toxicology, or a related field At least 3 years experience in chromatographic analytical techniques including GC, GC-MS A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship is available for this position including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process Preferred qualifications: Ph.D. in chemistry, toxicology or a related field Knowledge of organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, and/or analytical chemistry Knowledge of food contact regulatory requirements could be beneficial (e.g. FDA, EFSA) Familiarity with and/or willingness to operate under Good Laboratory Practices Skills, knowledge, and abilities: Proven project management skills.
