LIS Technician Job Description
Summary:
The LIS Technician is responsible for the service, maintenance and operation of instrumentation for a global pharmaceutical company focusing in the areas of optical spectroscopy and gas and liquid chromatography; other instrumentation will vary as needed by the department. Additional responsibilities include the scheduling of instrument service times with the instrument owners.
Required Qualifications and Education:
- Associates degree in a science-based or engineering preferred.
- Three or more years professional experience in the field of instrumental service and analysis, with experience operating and maintaining complex instruments and devices.
- Experience working in a chemistry or mechanical laboratory, safely using chemical reagents, equipment, and glassware.
- Experience with instrumentation software and computing systems.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Experience troubleshooting and problem solving with a minimum of supervision.
Preferred Qualifications and Education:
- Bachelor of Science/Arts or Associates in a science-based or engineering field preferred.
- Experience in analytical chemistry instrument support and troubleshooting.
- Experience with diagnosing electrical and mechanical problems.
- Ability to prepare information for reports (Word, Excel, Power Point).
- Ability to lift and move equipment.
Responsibilities - Essential Functions:
- Scientific Support: Collaborate with colleagues and client to aid in site production output by assisting in proper instrument operation.
- Instrument Maintenance: Ensure that departmental instrumentation is well maintained, calibrated and in working condition. This may require internal maintenance and repair of the instruments and/or working with outside companies to schedule preventative and other maintenance and repair.
- Instrument Scheduling and Training: Manage the scheduling of instruments in the department, and training of colleagues on the instrumentation to ensure proper instrument usage and safety.
- Maintain a central repository for all instrumentation software, manuals, and documentation both electronically and physically for communal departmental use. Work with the staff on instrument computer system management.
- Cryogen and Gas Management: Maintain cryogens and compressed gases for necessary instrumentation.
- Technical proficiencies on HPLC, GC, Balances, UV/Vis spectrophotometry, filter integrity testing, particle counters, ovens, baths and other supported technologies. Training on specific equipment will be provided.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as needed.
