Responsibilities:
The primary purpose of the Ambulatory Care Technician Certified position is to support the patient and the provider throughout the ambulatory care patient visit from registration through discharge and follow up. The Ambulatory Care Technician Certified structures the patient flow for the physicians in the examination and treatment of patients. As directed by a Physician and University Hospital policy, the Ambulatory Care Technician Certified administers intramuscular and subcutaneous injections which may be delegated under State regulations. Support all front end and clinical office procedures.

Qualifications:
Current certification from the certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), National Healthcare Association (NHA), American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), National Certification Medical association (NCMA) or registration from the American Medical Technologists (AMT) required or applicants may be licensed in the State of New Jersey in another classification, such as LPN, permitted by regulations to give intramuscular and subcutaneous injections or a third-year nursing student. Must have attained a satisfactory level of comprehension and experience in the administration of intramuscular and subcutaneous techniques. Must complete and pass annual review of medication administration, including classroom curriculum, hands on participation and successful passing (80 or higher) of post-test. At least one (1) year of related experience in a medical office setting preferred. Must be computer proficient. Bilingual (Spanish, Portuguese, or French) preferred. Experience in an Ambulatory Care service/outpatient care setting preferred. Candidate to be knowledgeable in Managed Care and Health Insurance in the State of New Jersey a plus. For OB/GYN experience in a women's health clinical practice preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Position requires standing and walking to 2/3 of the time, sitting 1/3 of the time, use of hands to finger, handle, or feel over 2/3 of the time, reach with hands and arms, 1/3 of the time, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl 1/3 of the time, talk or hear over 2/3 of the time. Position requires lifting up to 25 lbs. up to 2/3 of the time; lifting 50-100 pounds on occasion. Ability to move patients using assistive technology from a wheelchair sitting position to an exam table or from a stretcher to an exam table. Color sensitivity required; color vision deficiencies assessed.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic). Fast-paced, high pressure clinic environment with deadlines and exposure to blood-borne pathogens that requires use of personal protective equipment. Must be able to work and cooperate with a broad spectrum of staff and public.
