Ag & Personal Lines Underwriting Manager

What You will Do:
- Ensure proper underwriting operations by managing the process and workload, enforcing underwriting guidelines, and evaluating work results to ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines.
- Contribute to the profitability of Farm Bureau by effectively reviewing, accepting, modifying, and/or rejecting applications, renewals, or policy changes.
- Analyze and resolve complex underwriting requests.
- Assist the claims staff by interpreting the intent of coverage and providing legal documentation when needed.
- Define, implement, and monitor underwriting strategies consistent with the property/casualty companies' mission of being the 'Company of Choice' for agricultural insurance.
- Contribute to the profitability of FBL by leading Underwriters in accepting, modifying, or rejecting various renewal underwriting business risks.
- Achieve Underwriting Best Practices compliance based on company direction.
- Work with key areas of the company to improve the underwriting experience for the client/member, agent, and company.
- Work with business unit leaders and shared service leaders to determine ag underwriting objectives, goals, and scope.
- Provide training and technical expertise for the Underwriters as requested by Vice President of Personal Lines/Ag, Business Center Directors, Ag Operations Director, and Property Casualty Operations Director.
- Oversee staff development including selection, training/development, discipline/performance review, salary administration, referring employee complaints, controlling workflow, and motivation of employees.
- Assist the Business Center Director, as needed, this may include preparing reports, assisting with the budget projects, attending meetings, and working on projects.
- Build and foster team relationships throughout the company.
- Respond to inquiries and concerns from policyholders, agents, regulatory agencies, and the general public regarding underwriting decisions within the Business Center.
What it takes to join our team:
• College degree or equivalent plus 8 years of relevant experience required.
• Must possess excellent leadership, oral and written communication, planning, organization, decision making, and negotiation skills.
• Organizational change management experience helpful.
• Travel required, including overnight stays.
• Reasonably regular and predictable attendance.
• Obtain one of the following in first year: Associate Underwriter (AU), Associates in General Insurance (AINS), or Associate in Personal Insurance (API).
• Must have or obtain CPCU within 5 years.
