The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) team is seeking a Lead or Senior Space Communications and Sensor Payload Systems Engineer to join the team in El Segundo, CA. The Space, Intelligence & Weapons Systems Engineering Team creates the next generation products and services for the BDS business unit. We work with proprietary customers to develop the next-generation technologies in space. Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments. The Advanced Space Based Communications and Sensor Testbed Lead will be a part of a high-performing team that are immersed in high intensity development projects. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to design, develop, test, and deliver state-of-the-art space-based systems. This position will work on a multidisciplinary development team aimed to turn the latest theoretical technologies into reality. Project assignments typically span the complete program life cycle, from internal trades, concept studies and system definition, to satellite development, launch, and on-orbit operations and test. Primary Responsibilities: Design, develop, analyze, and test next generation laser, RF and digital space-based communication and/or sensor payloads
Define payload requirements and document payload interfaces
Perform system-level CONOPS development, functional analysis, and requirement decomposition
Support modeling, simulation, and emulation efforts for disruptive technologies under research & development
Support hands-on lab-based brass board development to implement industries latest technologies
Support hardware development, procurement, design reviews, and sell-off
Support hardware, software, and firmware integration and test activities
Develop analysis tools using programs such as: MATLAB, Excel, and / or other object-oriented software platforms
Perform system test preparation, execution, troubleshooting, and verification Active U.S Top Secret/SCI with CI or FS Poly / Special Program Access or other Government Access Requirements are mandatory for this position . Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience): Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
Lead (Level 4): 9 or more years' related engineering work experience or an equivalent combination of education and engineering experience. (e.g. Master+7 years' related work experience, PhD+4 years' related work experience) Senior (Level 5): 14 or more years' related engineering work experience or an equivalent combination of education and engineering experience (e.g. Master years' related work experience, PhD+9 years' related work experience) Lead (Level 4): 5 or more years' experience leading or managing multi-disciplinary engineering projects teams
Senior (Level 5): 10 or more years' experience leading or managing multi-disciplinary engineering projects teams
Experience with RF sensor or communication payloads
Experience with digital payload design, analysis, development, and verification
Experience in new technology or product/capability development
Demonstrated leadership for driving issue resolution and mitigating technical risk Preferred (Desired) Qualifications: Experience with satellite or terrestrial digital communication systems
Experience working with laser based communication systems
Experience with Matlab, Python, C .NET, etc
Experience with Model Based Engineering tools and languages such as Enterprise Architecture, Cameo, MagicDraw, and UML/SysML
Experience with SAFe / Agile practices
Experience with Git and JIRA
