George Fox University's School of Natural Sciences is looking for a highly motivated individual to serve as an Administrative Assistant to the School of Natural Sciences who can begin working April 1, 2025. The Administrative Assistant has the ability to assist with the operations and administrative duties of the School of Natural Sciences, the program director, and serve as the Administrator of the Richter Scholars Program. Candidates will be expected to collaborate with faculty and students in the School of Natural Sciences which includes the science outreach program, the departments of Mathematics and Biological and Molecular Sciences, to provide organization, event planning, budget oversight, and faculty support.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Serve as Assistant to the Director of the School of Natural Sciences. Responsibility includes overseeing department operations which includes scheduling meetings, taking minutes, purchasing, managing financial aspects of the office which includes running budget reports, updating the department webpages, and any required university tasks.
  • Serve as the Administrator of the Richter Scholars Program and manage the student application process and provide budget management. Schedule meetings for the Richter Committee, take minutes and communicate with students and their faculty mentors. Assist the students and mentors with the expenditure of their funds. Provide the necessary reporting materials to the Director for management of the Richter Scholars grant.
  • The ability to work with faculty and students and maintain effective relationships with other departments on campus.
  • Active collaboration with faculty to help with professional development resources, memberships, conference travel arrangements, and planning/organization of Richter Scholar events and other department events.
  • Collaborate and oversee student travel for research and project work as well as professional meetings.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate databases to track Richter Scholar expenditures, student stipends, research publications, presentations and historical Richter awards, etc.
  • Participate in the work of the department and university including university committees as needed.
  • Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
  • By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
  • Demonstrated experience working cross culturally with respect, appreciation and humility.
  • Other duties as assigned.
We're looking for candidates who have:
  • Some college experience with substantial professional administrative experience.
  • Proficiency in computer literacy, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Zoom and other meeting platforms.
  • Ability to assist with project management and a high level of organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of event planning, team work, and with a high level of initiative and ability to work independently.
Preference Will be Given to Those Who Have the Following Attributes:
  • A Bachelor's degree.

  • Annual Schedule: 0.76 FTE
    • 36 hours per week - September 1st through May 31st
    • 15 hours per week - June 1st through August 31st
  • Primary Work Location: Newberg Campus
  • Working Conditions: Physical requirements are those of a normal office environment.
