EMPLOYMENT BEGINS: July 1, 2025
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
  • To serve as secretary to the Deaf Education Department which includes clerical duties, problem solving, material acquisition, and record keeping while maintaining a positive and professional office environment for personnel, students, parents, and guests.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
  • High School Diploma/GED
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software.
  • Possess appropriate typing skills for keyboarding.
EXPERIENCE:
  • None
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  • Answer routine telephone inquiries regarding the department programs and procedures.
  • Type and prepare reports, file records/reports, handle correspondence within and outside district, and other communications related to department functions and supervisor needs.
  • Order materials and supplies, complete check requests.
  • Perform bookkeeping tasks in accordance with budgeting procedure.
  • Operate standard office machines.
  • Maintain accurate records of student enrollment and class counts.
  • Maintain current record information on students enrolled, which includes qualifying information; current address, telephone number, bus information, and student count for Texas Education Agency.
  • Maintain and update student assessment information, student folders, faculty data, and inventory.
  • Complete travel requisitions for teachers.
  • Schedule annual Admission Review Dismissal (ARD) meetings for full-time students.
  • Notify districts of student transportation needs.
  • Receive, count, and deposit monies collected.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Communicating clearly and concisely.
  • Reading and comprehending simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Writing simple correspondence and effectively presenting information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Interacting with the public and other staff and occasionally meeting multiple demands from several people.
  • Coordinating ARD scheduling with personnel from the nine Shared Service Arrangement districts.
  • Maintaining emotional control under stress and displaying a positive and caring attitude.
Physical demands/environmental factors:
  • Sitting, talking and listening.
  • Reaching with hands and arms and frequently repeating the same hand, arm or finger motion.
  • Lifting, carrying, and delivering various weights of equipment and materials.
  • Moderate noise level in the work environment.
