Job Description

University Police Department (UPD), Southern Command invites applications for Administrative Assistant II. We appreciate your interest in employment at our growing division.

ROLE of the POSITION

This position will perform a variety of administrative tasks under the direction of the Finance, Administration & Operations Manager for UPD. These tasks will primarily be responsible for staffing the front-desk at the police station; providing direct support to internal and external constituents via phone, online and in person, serving as the face of the department, assisting guests, vendors, deliveries, and fingerprinting services. This employee will be expected to serve as a lead worker and supervise student employees and/or interns to staff the front desk of the police station. This is an on campus position.

This position will also assist department leadership and HR with daily administrative operations, communications and event planning, while maintaining effective and timely communication. This position's work often requires self-initiating, planning, and a degree of independent judgement. It requires a significantly high level of creativity, and communication with leadership teams at college, university, and other state and federal agencies with a high level of discretion and tact.

The position will also assist in the capacity of morale coordinator and may assist in the planning of recreational and team building events, as well as the coordination/execution of other events. This position will also work collaboratively with all Command staff in overseeing various administrative related tasks as assigned.

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

The department is a full-service police department comprised of patrol operations, administration, police dispatch and a detective division. Services include a canine program, walking and bicycle patrols, and a pro-active, selective traffic enforcement program and takes a leadership role in preparing the University to respond to large-scale crises and events. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of clerical and administrative support experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: maintaining records and files; preparing a variety of materials using a personal computer or word processor; assisting customers in completing forms and applications; and/or performing secretarial duties in support of professional staff; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

SALARY

Grade 25 Step 1, salary $42,636.96. "Step" means the number assigned by the Division of Human Resource Management to identify a specific rate of pay within a grade. Per Nevada Administrative Code (NAC 284.170), salaries for initial appointments for classified positions typically begin at Step 1.
