The Burlington Council on Aging provides enrichment and support for Burlington's senior population. The COA is committed to helping older adults of all ages & stages to remain active, independent, and engaged members of the community. We are currently looking for an Administrative Assistant to support our professional staff in offering social and emotional services to our elders and their families and to promote the well-being of our seniors.

Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
  • Assist seniors and the public at the counter and on the telephone answering questions pertaining to Council On Aging/Jeanne A Garrett Senior Center and resources and activities available for seniors.
  • Prepare scheduled mailings from the office.
  • Provide general clerical assistance to department including copying, filing, processing departmental mail, data entry and word processing.
  • Maintain accurate departmental records and filing systems.
  • Prepare reports, correspondence and related information for department.
Minimum qualifications include
  • High school diploma with minimum of 3 years' experience in clerical and financial work.
  • Strong clerical and financial skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to learn specialized departmental software.
  • Must possess initiative and willingness to participate in a team environment.
  • Patience and ability to adapt communication style to a diverse population are essential.
  • Previous experience in customer service and working with the senior population helpful, but not necessary.
  • Must maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in standard office computer applications.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
This is a union position within the Burlington Municipal Employees Association bargaining unit. Salary is within Grade 6, of the BMEA contract. This position will begin on July 1, 2025.

Pay range starts at $29.53/hr with the opportunity to advance to a max rate of $42.20/hr via annual step increases. This is a full time position, 35 hours per week, and includes comprehensive and generous benefits.
