Fox Valley Technical College is establishing a pool of qualified candidates to instruct In a variety of Truck Driving related subject areas such as: Hazardous Materials endorsements, Passenger and School Bus endorsements, WDDC lectures, Yard Vehicle Training, Van Training, CDL Examiner Training and a number of other Transportation related activities. FVTC adjunct faculty are dynamic partners for both students and the College. An adjunct instructor works with students beyond the classroom to ensure their success, models FVTC core values, and demonstrates commitment to excellence in program/course content and delivery. An adjunct instructor can work effectively in a collaborative environment; is willing to innovate and change to meet evolving program and industry needs; and demonstrates competency with use of technology that supports learning and teaching. Generally, an adjunct instructor will be hired to instruct specific open classes based upon the adjunct instructor's qualifications and availability.
Job DescriptionEssential Functions and ResponsibilitiesThe following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully to be qualified for the position. Other duties may be required and assigned.Learning Facilitation - Foster student learning by developing appropriate instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and support student engagement. Create learning experiences that integrate multiple delivery methodologies and instructional technologies to maximize student success, such as hybrid, in-person, virtual, and on-line course delivery.
Assessment - Assess student learning and provide regular feedback to help students be successful. Use data to measure quality outcomes related to student persistence, retention, completion rate, course success, and learning and to design improvement strategies based on the evidence.
Classroom Management - Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate student attendance and grade records, maintain instructional environment with emphasis on safety, housekeeping, and equipment security, and ensure opportunities for student/engagement evaluation.
Team Participation - Support the college by engaging with the division, department, and team members, as well as staying current with internal and external changes and initiatives.
Business & Community Engagement - Build and maintain ongoing relationships with community, industry, and clinical partners. Proactively promote the College and our programs.
Student Success & Support - Serve as an advocate for students and collaborate with Student Services staff to retain students, close achievement gaps, and help all students be successful.
Professional Development - Continually improve knowledge and skills in emerging trends, current occupational practices and teaching through professional development activities, networking with regional industry leaders, and the integration of new techniques and technology. Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required to maintain individual and program accreditation.
Minimum QualificationsEducation and/or Experience Requirements- High School Diploma or equivalent, AND
- Minimum of two years of occupational experience in a target job for the subjects being taught, of which at least one year shall be within five years prior to date of hire. One year of recent related occupational experience may be waived if the instructor has at least two years of post secondary teaching experience in the appropriate subject area within five years prior to date of hire.
- Prior teaching or training experience preferred.
- Qualified per FVTC requirements at time of, and throughout employment as an instructor. Must also meet and maintain Higher Learning Commission (HLC) requirements, Faculty Quality Assurance Standards (FQAS), and/or other job specific licensing standards.
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:- Proper CDL licensure and endorsements required.
- Subject to DOT requirements and regulations.
- Valid Driver's License required.
- Subject to FVTC's Motor Vehicle Records Check.
- Appropriate and qualifying Commercial Driver's License.
- Proficiency utilizing learning management system.
- Adapt quickly to changing demands, assignments, and circumstances to meet student needs
- Engage in continuous improvement in the quality of instruction by embracing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods.
- Prior to hire, a background check including a motor vehicle record check and criminal record history will be conducted. Information from these particular checks will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.

Physical Requirements- Sitting: This role may require extended periods of sitting while performing tasks applicable to the job.
- Mobility: While much of the work may be stationary, mobility may be necessary for attending meetings, facility tours, teaching in lab, or other events.
- Lifting and Carrying: The role requires occasional/continuous lifting and carrying of light to moderate items (50 pounds).
- Climbing: Capability to climb such items as vehicle steps, ladders, or other applications specific to the job.
- Repetitive Motions: Capacity to perform repetitive motions, applicable to the job, without discomfort or injury.
- Communication: Clear verbal and written communication skills are essential for interacting with employees, candidates, and stakeholders, both in-person and through electronic means.
- Travel: Instructor position may require off-site teaching, fieldwork, or travel for professional development.
- Driving/Operational: Qualified to operate a vehicle or equipment, as required in the position.
- Other: Depending on the specific requirements of the instructional role (e.g., teaching specialized physical education courses, conducting outdoor education), additional physical requirements may need to be specified.
Work Environment- Work is commonly completed in person with elements supported in a virtual or hybrid environment.
- Work is typically performed in a classroom and laboratory.
- Work is occasionally performed outdoors during both daytime and nighttime hours, and in all conditions.

Additional InformationHourly pay rate: $45.00 per hour.
Pay is based on a multitude of factors, including experience, qualifications, education, relevant certifications, internal equity, and market data.

Adjunct instructors are hired on a per-course basis. The total hours for an adjunct instructor range from approximately 3 hours per week to no more than 8 hours per week. Hours vary and can include both day, evening, and weekend classes. Courses are taught in traditional classrooms and alternative delivery formats.
