Position: Activity Bus Driver Supervisor: Director of Transportation General Job Description: To provide safe and reliable transportation service by operating various school buses in transporting passengers to and from school as well as related activities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Conducting inspections on vehicles, equipment, and reporting their condition. Informing the supervisor of unsafe equipment or situations. Driving in a safe and orderly fashion while maintaining a neat and orderly bus. Supplying weekly reports on vehicle conditions and usage along with the status and condition of the bus. Focus on student safety during emergency evacuation procedures. Checking fuel, oil, tire pressure and recording usage. Maintaining and submitting an accurate and complete trip record to include total mileage and issues noted. Maintaining a safe environment which includes disciplining students who are creating safety hazards and reporting the same to the Transportation Director. Maintaining all service records for buses and coordinate servicing. Working in cooperation with other District Maintenance personnel, administration, faculty, and staff with regard to the conduct of activities in this function. Maintain communications with activity drivers concerning trips, locations, and bus performance. Additional Duties and Responsibilities: Other tasks as may be deemed appropriate and necessary by the immediate supervisor, the principal and/or the Superintendent. Qualifications: High School diploma or GED. New Mexico Commercial Driver's License (Class B). Knowledge of accident prevention/safe driving and bus operations practices, methods, and techniques. Knowledge of routing and local areas/streets. Knowledge and possession of First Aid/CPR certification where required by State and District Regulations. Knowledge of School District bus transportation policies and procedures. Must be able to meet physical and medical requirements such as criminal background search and ability to meet the requirements of U.S. Department of Transportation Drug and Alcohol Regulations (i.e. pre-employment, post-accident, random and reasonable suspicion testing). Knowledge and experience in providing excellent customer services such as building/maintaining positive relationships, responding courteously and addressing complaints. Must satisfactorily compete and pass all training and attend safety meetings and in-service meetings as required. Knowledge of mechanical aspects of bus transportation to assess maintenance problems and work collaboratively with Route Operations/Events and Maintenance to resolve them. Good knowledge of routes and schools in specified area of responsibility to ensure compliance with bus schedules and identify alternative routes in response to emergency/unplanned situations. Professional attitude and appearance and exercises tact and diplomacy in dealing with students, parents, and all school district personnel. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable. Physical Requirements: Sitting, standing, lifting, and carrying (up to 50 pounds), climbing stairs, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving light furniture may be required. Equipment/Material Handled: Must know how to properly operate, or be willing to learn to operate, all multimedia equipment including current technology in addition to communication equipment utilized in the buses. Safety and Health: Knowledge if universal hygiene precautions. Use of rubber gloves relating to student injuries and illness. CPR and First Aid training preferred. Work Environment: Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Job responsibilities require both inside and outside assignments. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. After hours work may be required.
