Activity Assistant - Full Time

Summary
We are looking for anenergetic, patient, creative and caring person to be responsible for leadingindividual and group recreation programs to meet the physical, social,emotional, intellectual, and spiritual needs of Memory Care residents. Responsiblefor activity programs specifically for residents in a dementia careenvironment. Ensure residents' lives are sustained to the fullest extent byproviding engaging activities and maintaining positive relationships withfamilies.

This is a full time position, Monday - Friday, 8 - 4:30. Some holidays and occasional evening/weekend hours are required.

Responsibilities
  • Works with the CampusActivity Director to design a creative and exciting monthly calendar thatincludes one-on-one programs as well as group activities that will meet theneeds and interests/health of our residents
  • Leads and/or overseesindividual and group activities for all levels of dementia/cognitive impairmenton a daily basis, encouraging resident participation
  • Works with communityvolunteers with the Campus Activity Director
  • Plans and attendsoutings in the local community
  • Able to successfullyparticipate in the Memory Care team facilitating person-centered approaches tobehavioral expressions with resident care
  • Greets new residentsmaking a special effort to include and engage them in activities and introducethem to others with similar interests and backgrounds
  • Maintains electronicdocumentation of all activities, resident participation levels, and acceptanceof each activity by residents as required by state law
  • Maintains the activity materialsand storage area in a neat, clean manner
  • Maintainsconfidentiality of verbal and written information pertaining to residents,co-workers, and families in the facility per the HIPAA Privacy Act
  • Performs any otherduties or special assignments as directed by the Campus Activity Director,Director of Nursing, or Administrator
Qualifications
To perform this jobsuccessfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential dutysatisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of theknowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Must have an outgoing,upbeat personality and enjoy leading groups of residents
  • Interest inarts/crafts/music is preferred
  • Must possess theability to quickly adapt to unexpected changes and make independent decisionswhen circumstances warrant such action
  • Enthusiastic and ableto inspire and motivate self and others
  • Maintains professionalworking relationships with all residents, associates, families, vendors, etc
  • Enjoys working with theelderly and relates well to seniors
  • The ability to drive 12passenger bus is preferred but not required
  • High school diploma orgeneral education degree (GED); and three to six months related experiencepreferred and/or training in direct service with older adults, or equivalentcombination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of dementia,particularly of the Alzheimer's type, is helpful

This is a full time position, Monday - Friday, 8 - 4:30.
