Summary: The Recreation Leader is responsible for the overall promotion, organization, and leadership of recreation programs.

Hours: Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and one weekend a month.

Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Leads or assists with group activities under the supervision of the Director
  • Provides and plans activities for each individual to include music, sensory stimulation, touch and tactile therapy, reminiscent and cognitive therapy, spiritual activities, arts, crafts, games, exercises, horticulture, pet therapy, and field trips.
  • Provides activities for residents' interest (past and present), physical, mental, and psychosocial needs.
  • Leads one-on-one activity sessions with residents who are unable to attend groups due to physical/mental capabilities or who refuse activities.
  • Matches innovative recreation with individual needs and motivates participation in activities.
  • Maintains good attendance and arrives/departs work at the scheduled time
  • Position requires working one weekend a month as the schedule allows and an occasional evening/holidays. Normal hours will be 8:30 am to 5 pm.
  • Supervises volunteers as needed or as deemed necessary by the Activities Director.
  • Arranges and sets up designated rooms and areas for scheduled activities.
  • Receives, stores, issues and cleans specified equipment for scheduled activities, keeping within guidelines with infection control policies.
  • Works well with volunteers, family, co-workers, and outside community.
  • Attends in-services required by Activities Director and Friendship Retirement Administration.
Education & Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Experience in a long-term care/rehabilitation facility preferred
