Job Description


In this position, you will be successful by leveraging their expertise in Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), leading the team in resolving complex accounting and reporting issues. A key to success will be your ability to apply your knowledge of technology platforms and accounting systems, such as SAP and Mainframe, to implement necessary changes and improve processes. Additionally, you will foster a high-performance culture by coaching and mentoring your team, holding them accountable for both technical proficiency and effective communication.


Responsibilities:


  • Lead and oversee the team in managing accounting systems, ensuring compliance with both GAAP and Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP), and driving projects related to financial reporting.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of financial statements and reconciliations, including guiding the team in complex accounting issues.
  • Design and implement internal controls, coach the team on technical skills, and promote a high-performance culture, fostering accountability and professional growth.
  • Collaborate with external auditors and regulatory bodies and proactively communicate with other departments to implement changes impacting financial reporting.

Qualifications and Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Master's degree preferred
  • 7+ years' experience in internal controls and/or accounting systems
  • Experience in Excel, SQL, Arbutus, Mainframe, Power Query or similar programs
  • Demonstrated leadership and development of a team through coaching and mentorship
  • Strong communication skills with ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership and executives
