Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Accounting Specialist to support our accounting team across a variety of financial and administrative functions. This role is ideal for someone with a strong foundation in accounting principles and a passion for maintaining accurate records and ensuring smooth financial operations. The Accounting Specialist will be responsible for credit and collections, insurance compliance, tax tracking, month-end close tasks, and general accounting support.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounts Receivable & Credit Management
- Post customer payments and reconcile discrepancies as needed.
- Prepare checks for remote deposit.
- Monitor and follow up on outstanding receivables by contacting customers.
- Generate and distribute weekly A/R aging and collection reports to management.
Insurance Compliance
- Monitor vendor Certificates of Insurance (COIs) through myCOI software.
- Review exceptions to coverage requirements and report findings to management.
Real Estate Tax Tracking
- Process and code real estate tax documents into internal databases.
- Verify assessment details and alert management of any discrepancies.
- Ensure timely payment of all real estate taxes, taking advantage of discount periods.
- Assist with tax appeal research as necessary.
Month-End Close Support
- Prepare bank reconciliations and account reconciliations.
- Record journal entries for various company entities.
General Accounting Support
- Prepare and file Sales and Use Tax returns and Personal Property Tax returns.
- Provide backup support for accounts payable and other accounting functions.
- Perform additional accounting-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in Accounting or equivalent work experience.
- 2-3 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and general ledger functions.
- High attention to detail with excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and comfortable with accounting software.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
