Overview:
The Accounting Manager will oversee the daily operations of the accounting department and report directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), daily tasks are coordinated and managed by the VP of Accounting/Controller. As a supervisor, you will provide leadership to the accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general accounting teams within a structured, process-oriented accounting framework. The primary objectives of this role include ensuring an efficient month-end closing process and delivering accurate financial reports of high quality while also fostering a culture of excellence and cultivating a high-performing team.
Schedule: This is a full time hybrid position. You will be required to be in the office at least 2 days per week in our Vienna, VA location.
Responsibilities:
• Lead and supervise a team of four or more accounting professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance management to ensure accurate and efficient financial operations.
• Foster a culture of continuous learning by facilitating training, mentoring, and resources to support team professional growth and career advancement.
• Oversee preparation and review of transactional journal entries, ensuring accurate allocation to projects, organizations, and accounts in compliance with GAAP and FAR.
• Perform and review reconciliations for revenue, labor, cost pools, leave accruals, and balance sheets (e.g., Unbilled AR, AR, Deferred Revenue, Customer Overpayments), resolving variances and correcting posting errors.
• Manage accounts receivable and payable processes, including billing, cash receipts, disbursements, and aging analysis, to ensure timely and accurate financial transactions.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for Concur expense management, approving expenses, preparing reports, and addressing employee inquiries.
• Maintain and optimize Deltek Costpoint by managing project setups, employee accounts, organizational structures, and system modifications to ensure data integrity.
• Support monthly financial reporting and analysis, collaborating with the Controller and CFO to deliver accurate and timely reports.
• Assist in designing and implementing standardized accounting procedures to enhance monthly reporting efficiency and internal controls.
• Lead efforts to improve system workflows and automate repetitive tasks within Deltek Costpoint and other financial tools.
• Support external audits, annual reviews, and DCAA Incurred Cost Submissions, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Contribute to budgeting by analyzing historical trends and forecasting financial performance in collaboration with department leaders.
• Establish and maintain document retention standards to support internal controls and external reviews.
• Collaborate with HR, Payroll, Contracts, and Operations to promote transparency and support organizational goals.
• Perform additional duties as directed by the Controller and CFO to support strategic financial objectives.
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field;
• CPA certification is preferred.
• Minimum of 7-12 years of professional accounting experience
• Minimum of 2 years in an accounting role with a federal government contractor
• Minimum of 2 years' experience using Deltek Costpoint Accounting System.
Qualifications:
• Proficiency in Deltek Costpoint modules, including General Ledger, Project Setup, Revenue and Billing, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Time & Expense.
• Deep knowledge of GAAP principles, general ledger accounting and reconciliation, and process-driven accounting.
• Proven track record of successfully managing a team of 4 or more accounting professionals, demonstrating strong leadership abilities and the capacity to foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
• Proven track record of successfully cultivating a learning-oriented environment within accounting teams, demonstrating a commitment to supporting team members' skill development, career progression, and overall growth.
• Ability to identify complex accounting issues, analyze root causes, and develop practical solutions to resolve challenges and improve financial processes.
• Demonstrated ability to manage time efficiently, balancing multiple priorities and deadlines effectively, while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail in accounting processes.
