Job Summary:

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing financial reporting, cost accounting, budgeting, and compliance within a manufacturing environment. This role ensures accurate financial statements, optimizes cost efficiency, and supports strategic decision-making. The Accounting Manager collaborates closely with operations, supply chain, and executive leadership to maintain financial integrity and improve processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Compliance:

  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, tax laws, and internal controls.
  • Oversee financial audits, liaising with external auditors and regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain accurate general ledger accounts and ensure timely reconciliations.

Cost Accounting & Inventory Management:

  • Manage and analyze cost structures, variances, and profitability to support pricing and cost-reduction strategies.
  • Oversee inventory valuation, standard costing, and physical inventory audits.
  • Collaborate with production teams to track and optimize material, labor, and overhead costs.
  • Implement and improve cost allocation methodologies for accurate financial reporting.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Planning:

  • Develop and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and financial models.
  • Provide detailed variance analysis and financial insights to senior management.
  • Support strategic decision-making through trend analysis and key performance indicator (KPI) tracking.

Process Improvement & Internal Controls:

  • Identify and implement efficiencies in accounting processes and financial systems.
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls and financial policies to mitigate risks.
  • Support ERP system implementation and continuous improvement of accounting software.

Leadership & Team Management:

  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, including accounts payable, receivable, and cost accountants.
  • Provide training, performance evaluations, and career development support for the team.
  • Foster collaboration between finance, operations, and supply chain teams to align financial goals with business strategies.

Qualifications & Skills:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
  • 5+ years of accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Prior experience in a leadership or managerial role.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, cost accounting principles, and financial analysis.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar).
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
  • Experience with inventory management, standard costing, and variance analysis.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with operations, supply chain, and senior management.
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.

Work Environment & Schedule:

  • Office-based role with occasional visits to manufacturing facilities.
  • May require extended hours during closing periods or audits.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or an MBA.
  • Experience in lean manufacturing or process improvement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with SOX compliance and tax regulations related to manufacturing.
