Position OverviewThe Office of Academic Programs unit within Undergraduate Education, a division of Academic Affairs, supports the intellectual engagement and pursuit of learning through courses, resources, and programs that enable students to pursue their potential, navigate the university, establish connections, and maximize experiential learning opportunities so students can fully embrace their educational endeavors and prepare for a meaningful career and life.

Academic Programs leads initiatives including the First-Year Seminar program, UNIV101, and KU Core 34. Each summer, our team works to connect incoming freshmen with our courses and Core 34 support throughout New Student Orientation. As Marketing Assistant, you'll be an important part of our promotional team by answering questions and providing suggestions to incoming freshmen and their parents/guests during the New Student Orientation Opportunities Fair.

Per the State of Kansas, student employees may hold concurrent appointments not to exceed maximum appointment and hours worked levels. However, concurrent student appointments must be of matching FLSA designation (exempt/salaried or non-exempt/hourly).
Job DescriptionMarketing and Customer Service Support (100%)
  • Enthusiastically communicate benefits of and answer questions related to First-Year Seminar, UNIV101, and KU Core 34 for parents and guests throughout new student orientation
  • Provide excellent customer service by connecting incoming students, parents, and guests to relevant resources related to their KU experience
  • Support staff delivery of student-facing orientation sessions by answering questions, assisting with logistics, and connecting students to each other and resources
  • Positively and responsibly represent the University of Kansas to incoming Jayhawks, current students, parents & guests, and campus partners throughout all OTP programs.
  • Gather feedback from students attending orientation and recommend revisions to presentation
  • Distribute flyers and promotional items to Opportunities Fair visitors
Required Qualifications
  1. Available through Summer 2025 Orientation Sessions (June 9 through July 25)
  2. Available for training the week of June 2 (approximately 8 hours total)
  3. Minimum GPA requirement of 2.5
  4. Strong communication skills as demonstrated by application materials and interview
  5. Experience with Lawrence campus and related resources
  6. During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments)
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Previously completed a First-Year Seminar (XXX 176 or XXX 177) or UNIV101 course
