Position Summary:
The Nursing Academic Advisor supports current and prospective students by providing guidance on academic planning, particularly during the pre-professional semester. The advisor also serves as a resource for information on programs within the College of Nursing and Health Professions, participating in advising sessions and recruitment events. This role may involve occasional travel and requires availability for evening or weekend hours as needed.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate academic advising to undergraduate nursing students in alignment with degree requirements.
- Ensure that Honors students are enrolled in appropriate Honors coursework.
- Advise students based on specific program requirements, including:
- Scholarship eligibility
- International programs
- Workforce, TAA (Trade Adjustment Assistance), and VA (Veterans Affairs) support programs
- Schedule student advising appointments in a timely and organized manner.
- Maintain detailed advising records using appropriate advising-related software systems.
- Respond promptly to student inquiries via email and phone, offering support and guidance as needed.
- Keep student records accurate and up to date.
- Collaborate regularly with Program Directors and Department Chairs to remain informed on program updates and requirements.
- Foster strong working relationships with students, fellow advisors, and academic leadership.
- Support recruitment and outreach efforts by participating in:
- Career and academic fairs
- Recruitment events
- Honors College Days
- New Student Registration Days
- Liaise with various student services departments across campus to support student success.
- Participate in assessment and evaluation processes as required.
- May teach a "Making Connections" course when needed.
- Serve on departmental, college, or university committees as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and goals of the College of Nursing and Health Professions.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Must have working knowledge of multiple undergraduate nursing program options.
Knowledge of software systems to maintain student records.
Excellent writing, communication, and critical thinking skills Efficient PC use (all Microsoft Office applications, Adobe Acrobat), and experience in data-based operations
Ability to organize, manage confidential information, and oversee special projects through to completion
General Days/Hours:
Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
