8th Grade Basketball Coach
Position Summary: The 8th Grade Basketball Coach is responsible for initiating various
aspects of the Basketball Program, such as recruiting within the school, training, and coaching
the members of the Basketball program.
Essential Responsibilities: Assist in coordination of the development and promotion of the
Basketball program. Maintain constant check of student athlete's grades and conduct. Assess
player's skill and assign team positions. Organize and schedule practice sessions. Teach life
skills and develop character. Effectively communicate with the athletic director, parents, players,
and administrators. Determine game strategy based on the team's capabilities. Maintain and
secure all Basketball equipment and uniforms. Manage court care and maintenance
Administrative tasks include ensuring all eligibility documents are completed and submitted.
Inventory documentation is turned in on time. Holding parents/guardians meetings and meetings
with all student athletes. Must follow established procedures in the event of an athlete's injury.
Must represent SPSD and the Basketball program in a professional manner at all time.
Other Duties: Attend staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to
improve coaching performance. Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Athletic
Director or other appropriated administrators.
Supervision Exercised: Assistant coaches and players.
Supervision Received: The TMS Athletic Director, TMS Building Principal, SPSD Athletic
Director

Minimum Qualifications: 2 years verifiable age equivalent basketball coaching experience is
preferred. A proven track record with age appropriate skill and program development is
preferred. First Aid and CPR certification is required for coaching.
All coaches not currently employed by the Saginaw Public School District MUST BE HIRED BY PCMI prior to beginning employment with the Saginaw Public School District.
