Position Description
Catawba County Cooperative Extension is recruiting for a full-time 4-H Program Assistant to plan and lead a variety of educational programs for school-age youth and work with volunteers who are involved in offering programs. Major program areas include STEM, Healthy Living, and Leadership. Employee works in cooperation with the 4-H Youth Development agent and other staff at the Cooperative Extension office. Must be responsible, dependable, professional, flexible and be a good team player. Must exercise initiative and independent judgement and courtesy in daily contact with staff, adult volunteers and school-age youth. Position requires a strong personal commitment to positive youth development and be a positive role model for youth/families in the community. Schedule includes day and evening work as well as some weekend work. Some overnight travel will be needed.
Likely hiring range $37,931.70 - $40,000.00 (Negotiable Dependent Upon Qualifications)
Responsibilities
• Plans and implements educational workshops for youth including 4-H Summer Enrichment program and other special-interest series, including elementary robotics. Tasks include marketing programs, managing teen and adult volunteers, managing registration, and transitioning participants in long-term 4-H involvement.
• Expand and support 4-H School Enrichment programs, by teaching classroom lessons using 4-H STEM and Healthy Living curriculums, working with classroom teachers, purchasing and organizing supplies.
• Provide support to Juntos program by assisting coordinator with club meetings and coordinating meals and children's activities for Family Nights, and entering member data in 4-H online.
• Assist with development and management of new 4-H clubs, with a special focus on underserved populations. Promotion of 4-H programs at various community events. Assist with county-wide club-related programs, including 4-H Leadership Council, Achievement Night, and fundraisers.
• Assist in the marketing and promotion and registration of youth in 4-H programs including creating marketing materials and utilization of 4-H Online, the state electronic enrollment system.
• Participate in Cooperative Extension in-service training on topics appropriate for position; some training will be multiple days and require overnight travel.
• Responsive to changing goals, priorities, and work duties and program changes based on changing needs in the community and within Cooperative Extension.
• Provide front office coverage when administrative assistant is away, includes greeting visitors, answering phones, and assisting guests using meeting rooms. Qualifications
• Associates degree in a related field (i.e.: communication, education, child development, human services, etc.) and 1 year of experience in youth development
• Bachelor's degree in a related field (i.e.: communication, education, child development, human services, etc.) ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
• Valid Driver's license with clean driving record; willingness and ability to drive a 15-passanger vehicle to transport youth for programs and educational trips.
• Ability to work and manage a flexible schedule which may include evening, weekends, and occasional overnight travel with youth.
• Ability to work with a variety of clients, program volunteers and youth of all varying ages and backgrounds. Flexibility and adaptability to be able to deliver programs in different settings and with different audiences.
• High level of organizational skills and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships and work with community partners.
• Ability to plan and lead educational programs for youth and adults. Additional Information

• Local Governmental Employees Retirement System: For employees assigned to work 20 hours per week or more in a benefitted position, participation in this program is automatic. Employees contribute 6% of their salary, which is tax deferred. After (5) years of creditable service, you become fully vested in the retirement system. Employees may also take advantage of individual and group retirement counseling through the Human Resources department.
• 401K: The County provides a 2% contribution plus an additional 1% match (up to 3% total contribution by the County). Our sworn law enforcement officers receive a flat 5% contribution to their 401k.
• Other Tax Deferred Programs: Other tax-sheltering programs are available through IRS Code 125 (Cafeteria Plan), and a 457 supplemental retirement plan (Deferred Compensation).
• Longevity Pay: After 5 years of creditable service, employees receive an annual longevity payment that is paid every year thereafter. This lump sum payment rewards employees for their length of service to Catawba County. The amount is based on years of service.
• Life Insurance: Death benefit equal to one times employee's annual salary with a minimum coverage amount of $25,000. Optional supplemental life insurance coverage is also available for both employee and dependents through payroll deduction at group rates.
