Provides assistance to the youth specialist and performs branch duties as needed. This position will work out of both the Danbury and Angleton Libraries and will be responsible for travel between the two branches. Shift: 24 hours/week, including some evenings and Saturdays Resume and cover letter required to be consideredESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assists the youth specialist with the following: planning and implementation of a variety of programs and services for children and young adults presentation of weekly literature-based storytime for appropriate audience maintenance of children's and young adult collections; advises youth specialist of materials needed planning and implementation of system-wide programs, such as summer reading program, BrazCon and others provision of youth reference and reader's advisory service development of a highly-visible outreach program for youth services in the community, including schools and other organizations Serves as a backup for the youth specialist Attends bi-monthly youth meetings. Creates bulletin boards, displays, flyers, handouts and other visual aids as needed. Interprets and implements library policies and procedures for library users and staff under the direction of the youth specialist. Performs branch duties as needed, including but not limited to: assisting patrons with computer use and printing circulating materials shelving Performs other duties as assigned Regular attendance is required SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This is not a supervisory position.QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Associate of Arts degree preferred. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence; ability to speak effectively to customers and to employees of organization MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Skill in effectively meeting with and dealing with the general public Skill in working with automated library systems Skill in composing and drafting letters, memoranda and other correspondence Strong organizational skills, good interpersonal skills and supervisory skills Ability to solve problems Ability to work independently CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS None required for this job. This job takes place within a library environment and in an automobile on county roads and streets. Inside the libraries the noise level is very low. The noise level can be loud while driving on the roads and streets. Outside weather conditions may fluctuate from extremely hot (above 90 degrees) to cold (below 30 degrees.) In outdoor conditions, employee may frequently be exposed to high humidity, hot sun light and/or rain, hazardous road conditions and gasoline fumes. In outdoor conditions, employee may occasionally be exposed to hail, sleet, and/or snow. SAFETY RECOMMENDATIONS/REQUIREMENTS The incumbent in this job must be knowledgeable about and follow the county's safety policies and procedures. Ask supervisor for details. Employee must follow safety road signs, maintain safe speed and drive cautiously at all times, paying strict attention to road conditions and maintaining alertness while operating county automobile.
