The DU Feeds Volunteer and Community Outreach Lead is a position developed in collaboration between the Willenborg Civic Learning Academy, the Office of Civic Learning, and the Department of Nutrition Sciences. Description: Willenborg Civic Action Intern in Nutrition: DU Feeds Volunteer and Community Outreach Lead The purpose of this position is to lead Volunteer and Community Outreach for the DU Feeds Pantry for the 24/25 academic year. DU Feeds is a student-led food pantry that aims to provide nutritious food options to students experiencing food insecurity on campus. The DU Feeds Volunteer and Community Outreach Lead will work closely with the DU Feeds Manager, other pantry leaders, and DU faculty and staff to sustain and deepen the campus effort to address food insecurity among students through DU Feeds. The DU Feeds Volunteer and Community Outreach Lead will be supervised by the DU Feeds Manager and faculty in the Department of Nutrition Sciences. Responsibilities include assisting the DU Feeds Manager with and learning the following tasks: Develop DU Feeds pantry volunteer sign-in and sign-out policies and procedures on DU Impact, the Dominican University Platform for student civic engagement Develop, post, and manage DUImpact shifts Communicate shift reminders to student volunteer Develop DU Feeds pantry volunteer evaluation policies and procedures Complete and certify student volunteer time/evaluations Manage volunteer cancellations by identifying replacements, etc. Develop and strengthen networks with other organizations, both on and off campus, including DU student Club/Org Outreach, Major/department level collaborations (e.g., Nursing); University Ministry; and the Center for Cultural Liberation. Document and update procedures to maintain institutional memory and feed continuous improvement. Under the supervision of faculty, explore, brainstorm, and, when possible, implement research to better understand how to address food scarcity challenges on campus. Other duties as agreed upon with supervisors. Requirements: 5 hours per week (opportunity for additional hours, depending on interest and availability), on campus with some remote/virtual Skills, Knowledge, and Qualifications: Works well in teams and independently; good people skills; ability to maintain confidentiality. Responsible; personable; ability to follow through; flexible. Ability to complete tasks independently with minimal supervision. Have a passion for social justice and practical work to create a more just and humane world. Some knowledge and enthusiasm for the field of nutrition in terms of food insecurity, food-related programming, and nutrient needs for students. Should possess some experience with some community service agencies or great enthusiasm for building relationships with them. Openness to working with faculty in other disciplinary areas (including Business Ethics, Business Law, Conflict Resolution, Criminology, French, Health and Wellness, History, Information Studies, Ministry, Nursing, Nutrition, Political Science, Social Work, Spanish, and Theology). Compensation: $15 per hour. Description for All Willenborg Civic Action Interns: Willenborg Civic Action Interns work with Willenborg Faculty Fellows, the Office for Civic Learning team, and community agencies in Greater Chicago to help build courses and experiences for courses that: Provide DU students with mentoring and hands-on experiences with professionals and organizations working for social and economic justice, Build students' capacity for open-minded and effective communication about issues of public concern, Further students' ability to research issues, analyze different points of view, and take informed stands on policy debates, or Allow students to deepen their understanding of how political power, social practices and policies have impacted the sites and people they engage within community-based learning, internships, or study away experiences
