Jefferson Franklin Community Action Corporation (JFCAC) located in Hillsboro, MO is seeking to fill a WIC Clerk position in our Women, Infants & Children Supplemental Food/Nutrition Program (WIC) Department. The trained WIC Clerk is a paraprofessional who assists in clerical or administrative duties according to the state WIC program policies and procedures. Successful completion of State and Local approved training and continuing education must occur within timeframes designated by the State and Local agencies.


MAJOR TASKS:

  1. The WIC Clerk greets all clients with a smile and identifies self to participants.
  2. The WIC Clerk maintains a courteous and respectful attitude towards all participants in the WIC program.
  3. The WIC Clerk answers phones and returns voice mail messages to schedule/ re-schedule WIC appointments.
  4. The WIC Clerk will follow-up on no-show participants and reschedule appointments.
  5. The WIC Clerk will prescreens applicants and obtains certification data such as demographics and income. Reviews and documents eligibility requirements for proof of income, residency and/ or identity and enters them in MOWINS. Updates data and enters notes when appropriate. Retrieves Department Common Number (DCN) for individual applicant, if needed.
  6. The WIC Clerk will explains to the participant the importance of the WIC folder, keeping their scheduled appointments, and their rights and responsibilities which includes but is not limited to avoiding dual participation and fraud. Informs participants about the benefits and services of the WIC program.
  7. E xplains the program and how to use the food instruments.
  8. Prints and issues food instruments.
  9. Voids food instruments and reprints food instruments in accordance to State policy.
  10. Provides the state Verification of Certification (VOC) number to participants for out of state transfer requests.
  11. Assists in the management of clinic flow.
  12. Refers participants to social and community service programs.
  13. Assists in the promotion and support of breastfeeding as the preferred method of feeding. May issue manual, hospital grade multi-user, and single-user electric breast pumps to breastfeeding participants per Breast Pump Policy.
  14. Participates in community outreach efforts and special projects as assigned by the WIC Nutrition Coordinator or WIC Director.
  15. Participates in staff in-services and/ or training sessions as needed.
  16. Provides recommendations for improvement of the clinic environment and flow.
  17. Assists with end of day cleaning of clinic and equipment.
  18. Organizes WIC clinic sites for effective operation, including but not limited to the set-up of tables, chairs, computer equipment, and supplies.
  19. Travels between WIC clinics, to outreach sites, and to training sites with own vehicle.
  20. Acknowledges receipt of blank food instrument paper stocks and places order as needed.
  21. Assists with the retention and destruction of records.
  22. Appropriately records program management, client service and breastfeeding promotion hours on timesheet according to policy.
  23. Reviews all policies and policy updates.
  24. Reviews reports, WIC updates and emails.
  25. Performs other duties as assigned by the WIC Director

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. High School or General Education Development (GED) diploma.
  2. Public Health experience preferred.

OTHER REQUIRED CAPABILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Demonstrate rapport building by establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with WIC participants, WIC team members and other health and social services personnel.
  2. Maintains a courteous and respectful attitude toward WIC participants, WIC team members and other health and social services personnel.
  3. Knowledge of the benefits of breastfeeding and understanding of how to support the breastfeeding mother.
  4. Demonstrate ability to accurately record demographic and income data.
  5. Ability to present ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
  6. Ability to plan and organize work assignments.
  7. Ability to use basic computer software, hardware, and standard office equipment.
  8. Ability to work well with individuals of diverse socioeconomic/ cultural/ intellectual backgrounds.
  9. May be required to travel in or out of community with own vehicle.
