NATURE AND SCOPE: The Wellness Director will successfully lead a team and plan, administer, and evaluate all wellness-related programming. This position is primarily responsible for the design and implementation of the branch wellness and group exercise programs. RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to): Develop and implement a plan for the wellness and group exercise program growth and alignment with branch budget, goals, and association initiatives. Assume responsibility for overall supervision of all wellness and group exercise programs. Effectively manage budgets and hold staff accountable for high-quality results using formal process to measure progress. Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule, supervise, and evaluate the Wellness Department, including employees and volunteers. Develop and implement a plan to attract and recruit new members and corporate partnerships. Conduct pilots for new programs; develop plans and manage best practices through engagement of the staff team. Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Will become trained in Weight Loss for Life curriculum and is able to support coaches and to assist in leading group sessions. Foster a climate of innovation. Monitor progress towards branch's goals by running and reviewing all necessary reports. Lead the Y's presence at community outreach, including the "WHY IT MATTERS" campaign. Coordinate marketing efforts to maximize enrollments and provides ongoing support to the Director on related issues. REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in exercise science, physical education, exercise psychology, behavioral science, or a health-related field and 3+ years experience in the wellness field OR 5+ years of experience in the wellness field 1+ years of supervisory responsibilities Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to recognize and implement safety standards in all program activities Strong Human Relations and Conflict Management skills Ability to effectively communicate and manage information to program participants, community leaders, and volunteers and staff of all ages Proficient knowledge of computers, various technology, and applications Ability to multitasks, work independently, problem solve and effectively manage time Must be able to obtain within 30 days of hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, Working with Program Volunteers, CPR, First Aid, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens training Must be knowledgeable about fitness-related issues including but not limited to aerobic vs. anaerobic exercise, nutrition, benefits of exercise, and injury-prevention PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in exercise science, physical education, exercise psychology, behavioral science, or a health-related field. Current national group exercise/personal training certification from one of the national organizations, which are recognized by Y of the USA, e.g., ACE, ACSM, AFAA, or NETA. 5+ years of wellness program experience 2+ years of supervisory experience YMCA Team Leader certification Prior program and people management experience Budget management and program start-up experience THE COACH APPROACH knowledge Employment and Benefits package for this job posting is offered through the YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta, Inc.
