Job Summary

Dominion Energy is looking for a Welding Technician I, II, or III to join our team. This is a full time/permanent career in the weld shop covering Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho. The position(s) available will be filled at either the Welding Tech I, II, or III level commensurate with the selected candidate's skills and abilities.

Welding Tech I

This entry level position will support smooth, reliable operations of the department. Daily duties may require a high level of supervision and will be directed by supervision or as delegated.

Assists in routine pipe fitting and layout operations.
Assists other welders in lining up fittings.
Conducts pressure tests on prefabricated assemblies.
Maintains shop, field welding and construction equipment.
Assist with inspection of company pipeline construction projects.
Assist with routine or emergency repairs to high-pressure pipelines and facilities.
Perform low-stress and high-stress welding and cutting tasks.
Operate construction equipment, or pipeline tapping and stopping equipment.

Welding Tech II

This intermediate level position will perform duties and tasks necessary to support smooth, reliable operations of the department with limited oversight.

Works with other welders in lining up fittings.
Conduct pressure tests on prefabricated assemblies.
Maintain shop, field welding, and construction equipment.
Works with or perform inspection of company pipeline construction projects.
Perform pipe fitting and layout work.
Perform routine or emergency repairs to high-pressure pipelines and facilities.
Perform low-stress and high-stress welding and cutting tasks.
Operate construction equipment and pipeline tapping and stopping equipment.

Welding Tech III

This senior level position will perform duties and tasks necessary to support smooth and reliable operation of the department with little to no oversight.

Works with other welders or perform in lining up fittings.
Conduct pressure tests on prefabricated assemblies.
Maintain shop, field welding, and construction equipment.
Leads inspection of company, pipeline construction projects.
Perform pipe fitting and layout work.
Perform routine or emergency repairs to high-pressure pipelines and facilities.
Perform low-stress and high-stress welding and cutting tasks.
Operate construction equipment and pipeline tapping and stopping equipment.

Additional responsibilities for all levels include:

Maintain day to day records and reports
Conduct shop tests (Hydrostatic and Pneumatic) for pipe and fabricated assemblies.
Mark up engineering drawings for corrections and or substitutions in order to ensure accuracy
Perform final inspection of fabrication with drawing
Operate backhoe, forklift, overhead crane, crew truck/dump truck.
Interact with DOT and state representatives and officials on job sites
Ensure contractor adherence to design, codes, and standards
Verify correct torque specs for bolts, gaskets, and material grades
Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

The company is actively seeking United States military veterans and service members who meet the following qualifications: Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3 plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined under Minimum Requirements.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Minimum Requirements (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications):

Welding Tech I

0-2 years of directly related experience

Welding Tech II

2+ years of directly related experience

Welding Tech III

5+ years of directly related experience

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Welding Tech I:

Basic knowledge of: routine welding and pipeline repair procedures and techniques, welding and construction equipment safety rules/procedures, high-pressure distribution system, in rigging of prefabricated assemblies, X-ray equipment, and safety requirements; fire protection systems, tools and materials used in construction.
Skills: routine operation of equipment such as welders, cutting torches, backhoe, crane, forklift, bevel machine, and pipe fitting equipment; operating construction excavation equipment; make layouts from blueprints or verbal orders; read distribution maps; use personal computer and related software, basic math; communicate effectively orally and in writing; communicate clear instructions to others

Welding Tech II

Knowledge of: high-pressure, construction, and maintenance welding procedures; HP distribution system; construction equipment operations; pipe diameters, thicknesses, and grades in relation to one another; operating and construction safety practices and procedures; strong safety awareness; basic math.
Skills: use personal computer and related software; read and work from blueprints and design drawings; work with design engineering on facility configurations and complications; read distribution maps; handle complaints and problems with minimal supervision; communicate effectively orally and in writing; communicate clear instructions to others and evaluate results

Welding Tech III

Advanced knowledge of: pipeline welding procedures and techniques including American Petroleum Institute (API) 1104; pipeline repair procedures and techniques, DOT Pipeline Safety Regulations, Parts 191 and 192; advanced welding and construction equipment safety rules and procedures, high-pressure distribution systems, X-ray equipment and safety requirements; rigging of fabricated assembly; standard regulator stations design and function
Skills: advanced operations of welding equipment such as welders, cutting torches, backhoe, crane, forklift, bevel machine, and pipefitting equipment, and/or skill in advanced operations of construction equipment; use personal computer and related software; basic math; fire protection systems; read distribution maps and engineering drawings; use and calibrate Zero and use all welding and pipeline inspection equipment; work with design engineering on facility configurations and complications; communicate effectively orally and in writing; communicate clear instructions to others and evaluate results.

Abilities for All Three Levels: Recognize and respond to emergency situations which may include changing flat tires, chaining up vehicles, operating jacks, performing minor maintenance, and operating two-way radios; contribute to a positive work environment; lift (50 lbs.), bend, kneel, push, pull, crawl; see objects at close range and determine the distance between objects; match and discriminate between colors; distinguish nature of sounds to determine if equipment is running correctly or hear gas leak.

Preferred Qualifications for All Three Levels:

Familiar with operating a ten-wheel dump truck, crew truck with trailer and/or mini excavator
Education Requirements

High School graduate or GED is required.

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Obtain NCCCO Crane Certification, CDL, and/or API 1169, API-1104, NWIS CPWI+V, at leadership discretion

Match and discriminate between colors, and distinguish the nature of sounds, to determine if equipment is running correctly, or to hear a gas leak and smell, to detect natural gas and other hazardous materials.
Works on uneven or slippery surfaces.
Test Description

Must successfully demonstrate welding skills through API 1104 weld test 12" Branch-to-header multi-qualification (cellulose and low hydrogen rod) and "in-service" low hydrogen fillet weld procedures and/or demonstrate ability to operate pipeline stopping and tapping equipment and/or advance proficiency in heavy construction depending on specific job duties
