Questions before applying? Role: Under the general supervision of the Road and Bridge Lead Equipment Operator. The Welder/Truck Driver is a combination of welding and hauling materials to road maintenance jobsites. They are primarily responsible for welding metals and driving and operating a 10-wheel dump truck or flatbed to deliver specific materials and/or heavy equipment locally. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Minimum Requirements: Driving: Must have valid Class B Kansas Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and must be insurable with the Nation's insurance carrier. Experience: Two years of welding experience in combination with an AA degree in welding or equivalent (apprenticeship, Technical Certificate for welding) or 5+ years of welding experience in a professional setting in lieu of a certificate/degree/apprenticeship with at least two years of experience in heavy truck driving and/or highway construction maintenance. A record of satisfactory attendance and performance in all prior and current employment. Education: Must have a high school diploma or GED Interpersonal Skills: Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essentials elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the PBPN for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation. Knowledge: Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of asphalt roadways. Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Knowledge of driving a truck and trailer, including but not limited to end dumps. Knowledge of occupational safety, policies, and procedures, when engaging with hazardous materials, traffic hazards, and heavy equipment. Promoting a safety culture within the Nation. Knowledge of welding equipment operations and the maintenance of large equipment and trucks. Knowledge of mathematics and simple formulas for mixing materials. Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar, with the ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Skills: Operational Skills: Watching and reading gauges, dials, or indicators to ensure a machine or piece of equipment is working properly. Interpersonal skills: Remain open to others' ideas and exhibit a willingness to try new processes. Works well independently with close supervision and together with others in a team-oriented environment. Dependable: Follows instructions, responds positively to direction and feedback. Organized: Uses time efficiently and develops realistic action plans for assigned work orders. Abilities: Must be available to work the assigned schedule and available as needed to work a flexible schedule to meet the demands of the position, which may include nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime. Ability to be reliable, punctual, and dependable in order to meet the needs of the department and Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation.
