If so, this job is for you. The Division of Water, within the Department of Environmental Conservation, is recruiting a Village Safe Water (VSW) Engineer 2. This position works on behalf of, and serves as an advocate for, rural Alaskan communities in their pursuit of capital improvements of their drinking water, wastewater, and solid waste facilities. The position completes and directs a variety of project assignments in order to plan, design, and construct infrastructure improvement projects through the application of civil, environmental, and sanitary engineering theories, concepts, principles, and practices. This position supervises, mentors, and advises VSW engineers, assistants and associates. This position contributes to that mission by providing engineering insight on proposed sanitation infrastructure improvements, informing decisions about funding allocation, and participating in development and implementation of engineering policies and procedures to ensure consistent and proactive oversight of funded projects. VSW is comprised of a team of environmental specialists, engineers and project management professionals dedicated to the mission of providing safe drinking water and protecting water quality for all Alaskans. The activities of the program have a direct positive effect on public health in hundreds of Alaskan villages. The working environment you can expect: This position may be filled in Anchorage, Juneau, or Fairbanks. The work schedule is flexible and telework opportunities are available. The work will require short-duration travel to rural communities in Alaska. Travel for training and project site inspections should be expected. We are looking for a candidate that has experience in the following areas: Environmental Engineering: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods to protect and improve the quality of the environment and its resources; and to monitor, control, abate, and prevent pollutants. Written Communication: Writes in a clear, concise, organized, and convincing manner for the intended audience. Special Note: A valid driver's license is required. A professional engineering (PE) certification listed in the State of Alaska is required of the VSW Engineer II position. This position includes some travel within the State. Travel may include small plane, boat or snow machine. Minimum Qualifications Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) AND One year of professional experience as an Engineering Associate 1 (or the equivalent) with the State of Alaska or elsewhere. Special Note: "Professional engineering" includes the branches listed in 12 AAC 36.990 (17). Positions in this class require professional registration as an Engineer with the State of Alaska. Persons not registered in the State of Alaska must be registered in a state recognized by the State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors eligible for comity in accordance with AS 08.48.191(b). Persons employed under this provision must become registered in Alaska within one year of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment. Some positions require the incumbent to have specific education and/or experience with water, sewer and/or solid waste. This requirement will be addressed in the Position Description and job posting.
