Job Description:

The Role

As the Lead Data Architect within the FBT/FIT Data Architecture Team, you will establish and promote data strategies, patterns data architecture solutions for the capabilities throughout FIT's environment. You will lead a talented team of senior data architects. The focus will be to partner with FIT development teams to ensure we are standardizing data architectures, cloud topologies and detailed designs to tackle sophisticated problems in support of the cloud modernization objectives and ongoing business transformation requirements. You will be encouraged to partner with architecture leaders from across FIT, brokerage and partner business units and the enterprise. This will help influence the broader technology community as well as to bring those viewpoints back into FBT/FIT.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a technology related field (e.g., Engineering, Computer Science, etc.) required.

  • Proven technology and personal leadership experience in architecting, crafting and successfully building highly scalable data solutions.

  • Decisive leader that can multi-task to address technical issues, establish standards and strategies, and lead a team of senior data architects.

  • 10+ years of experience in building distributed systems and applications and at least 3 years with Cloud database technologies.

  • Demonstrable experience in Relational, NoSql, Distributed databases, Data warehouse, Data Lake and Streaming technologies, Master Data Management, reporting and analytics

  • Enterprise scale expertise in data management standard methodologies such as data integration, data security, data warehousing, data analytics, metadata management and data quality.

  • Knowledge/experience in architecting modern data integration frameworks, highly scalable distributed systems using open source and emerging data architecture designs and patterns.

  • Analyze cost and performance in data solutions and recommend improvement for optimization.

  • Financial industry experience is preferred, particularly within Clearing and Custody business.

  • Formulate a strategy and to communicate the strategy to a large organization optimally to drive broad consensus and adoption

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Good interpersonal, negotiating, and influencing skills with a demonstrable ability to engage senior management and engage at all levels of the organization

  • Communicating and collaborating with partners to accelerate our mainframe platform migration

  • Relevant certification in public cloud services (e.g., AWS Certified Solution Architect and AWS Certified Advanced Network - Specialty) is highly desirable.


The Team

Fidelity Brokerage Technology (FBT) and Fidelity Institutional Technology (FIT) support retail, workplace, and institutional customers by providing brokerage, clearing and custody services. FBT/FIT customers include investment professionals (e.g. financial advisors, registered investment advisors, institutional investors), businesses, and institutions (e.g. broker-dealers, banks, trusts, and family offices). Fidelity Investments holds $11.1 Trillion in assets under administration (Q2 2021) and its platforms support 3.5 Million total daily trades (Q1 2021).

The FBT/FIT Architecture group provides deep technical expertise to the broader FBT/FIT Engineering community, delivering solution architecture and data architecture mentorship as well as cross-organization technical architecture guidance (enterprise architecture).

Data architecture team is accountable for data architecture of the brokerage and institutional solutions, with an objective to modernize the data platforms, improve and prepare our systems for business growth, improve efficiency with agility and, ultimately, the unlocking of new value for investment professionals, businesses, institutions, and employees. We strive towards creating systems for gathering the right data and incorporating it fully for operations and analytics to drive the business forward, with best of the breed data solutions to collect, store, and analyze the data, to generate insights.
