SUMMARY

Laboratory Test Technician responsible for conducting performance and durability testing of automotive Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC) and engine cooling components. Technician duties require hands-on installation and removal of test parts and associated instrumentation, conducting tests and collection of data on test benches in a laboratory environment. The job will entail interfacing with engineers to understand test requirements and procedures to effectively perform the requested tests.

The testing of the components is part of the product development cycle to validate new component designs or applications for major automotive OEMs.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Test set up of Automotive HVAC systems, modules, heat exchangers or sub-components such as blowers and actuators in order to perform performance measurements or durability life cycle testing.

  • Understands the principles of a refrigeration cycle and the function of all the components and be proficient in diagnosing refrigerant system issues.

  • Installation of instrumentation and equipment to monitor the test parameters including measurements of temperature, pressure and flow.

  • Interface with computer based electronic test systems.

  • Understand and execute tests efficiently and correctly.

  • Observes consistency in test data, interprets results and report irregularities to test engineer.

  • Diagnosis and resolve test component or bench issues, perform basic repairs and maintenance.

  • Ability to cross training in various Test Laboratory positions, become proficient in multiple test bench operations.

  • Take direction from test area supervisor for daily assignments.

  • Must keep work area clean and orderly.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • College degree in a related mechanical discipline or the equivalent combination of education, technical training and work experience.
  • AAS Automotive/Mechanical/Electrical Technology or equivalent experience.

  • 3 to 5 years' experience as an automotive technician desired.

  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification desired.

  • EPA Section 608 certification (refrigerate handling) - desired.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude/knowledge of automotive A/C refrigerant systems.

  • Effective interpersonal skills. Must work and communicate well with co-workers.

  • Proficient with PC based software such as MS Windows/Office.
