Utility Worker I

This position is eligible for a $500 new hire retention incentive after 6 months of successful employment with the City (external candidates only).

The City of O'Fallon, MO is looking to hire a full time Utility Worker I for our Sewer Lateral Repair Crew. Are you looking for a position where you'll build on your knowledge of sewer lateral and water line systems? Our Utility Worker I earn competitive hourly rates from $24.72 to $37.10 (top of grade). As part of our Water and Sewer Division, you will be responsible for participating in the work of an assigned crew of personnel engaged in the maintenance and repair of the sewer lateral line system. Generally, your schedule will be daytime hours Monday through Friday, but overtime hours may be required occasionally.

Responsibilities and duties include:

• Troubleshoots, operates and repairs sewer lift stations, plumbing, and electrical systems.
• Assists in maintaining and repairing a variety of machinery and equipment.
• Operates a variety of machinery and equipment.
• Welds and fabricates parts and tools.
• Repairs and maintains water lines, sewer lines, valves and manholes.
• Responds to and resolves customer complaints.
• Cleans and maintains facilities buildings, lagoons, and grounds.
• Repairs streets, driveways and yards following maintenance operations.
• Cleans sewer lines.
• Assists in the inspection of new lines.
• Assists in the location of water and sewer lines
• Responds to emergency situations.
• Participates in snow removal operations.
• Performs related duties.

Requirements include:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• The ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs and/or maneuver equipment up to 100 lbs.
• Ability to be on-call evenings and weekends and to work long hours outside in all types of weather conditions.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement issued by the State of Missouri.
  
• Possession of or ability to obtain a Class A Collections System Operator Certification or Class III Distribution Certification
• Able to work in confined spaces, as defined by OSHA
