JOB DESCRIPTION:

The USPI Chief Financial Officer is responsible for all financial management for USPI. USPI is the largest ambulatory surgery platform with over 460 facilities and systemwide revenue of greater than $7 billion. The successful candidate is a proven CFO who is a strategic and agile thinker, effective change agent, and operationally oriented to drive performance. This person will have responsibility over the USPI Revenue Cycle Management and Operations Finance teams and will help create and execute key strategies that capitalize on USPI's unique position in the market. The individual we seek is a dynamic, rigorous, collaborative executive who works well as part of a team and has the executive courage to make difficult recommendations and/or decisions. This person will enable superior finance stewardship and has a business partner mindset, authentic leadership, and impactful communication and influence skills.

Responsibilities and Expectations

Strategic Partner:

  • Serve as a member of USPI's executive leadership team and as a key partner in the execution of strategic plans.
  • Ensure the linkage of strategic plans and all operational initiatives to delivery of overall business and financial results, as well as to annual budgets, forecasts, and other processes.
  • Foster high integrity and trusting relationships with the leadership team and operations team.

Financial Planning & Analysis:

  • Partner with business leaders to develop short and long-term financial and operating plans.
  • Develop and review financial forecasts & scenarios with senior management to ensure business performance is in line with expectations and external guidance.
  • Champion a culture of improvement and optimization, actively seeking and implementing opportunities to enhance operational efficiencies through rigorous standardization and strategic cost measures. Drive shareholder value by instilling a mindset of perpetual enhancement, ensuring a dynamic and cost-effective operational landscape.
  • Develop and manage performance dashboards, including measures and metrics to monitor and analyze business performance and key performance indicators. Hold the leadership teams accountable for actions to drive the core dashboard KPI's.
  • Lead monthly close process to analyze results, identify key priorities, and drive future operational improvement.
  • Oversight for analytical projects in support of business decisions on investments (e.g., capital expenditures), transactions (e.g., acquisitions, joint ventures, outsourcing) and continuous improvement (e.g., service line profitability, operating expense management).
  • Provide financial and business decision support for both ongoing business and the development of new growth opportunities.

Revenue Cycle Management:

  • Oversee 700+ employee revenue cycle management team which includes onshore and offshore resources.
  • Improve overall cash collections and optimize potential revenue opportunities throughout the portfolio.
  • Manage the relationship with Tenet managed care teams to optimize and comply with various managed care contracts.
  • Drive annual growth of new customers and clients of revenue cycle management services.

Accounting/Financial Controls:

  • Oversee finance functions including accounting, AP, Payroll, Internal Audit and Compliance.
  • Participate on key capital allocation committees and assessment of acquisitions and de novo practice development.
  • Ensure the fiscal integrity of the company's business through the enhancement and management of accounting systems and controls.
  • Monitor controls and ensure compliance with SOX.

Financial Reporting:

  • Support the preparation of timely and accurate financial reports for Tenet including SEC and tax filings, and analysis of performance, variance, and cash flow to all appropriate corporate standards.
  • Actively participate in quarterly earnings preparation for Tenet public disclosures including accuracy of financials and preparation of financial guidance and key messages.

Team leadership:

  • Provide strong leadership in the recruitment and development of top-quality financial talent to ensure the finance organization has a high level of performance and productivity.
  • Instill a culture that emphasizes speed, accountability, and innovation across the enterprise. Continually reinforce a culture of business integrity, ethics, and compliance.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

Tenet Healthcare seeks a world class, experienced finance leader to partner with the CEO, CFO, and senior leadership through the next phase of USPI's evolution. The new USPI CFO will have demonstrated experience and expertise leading change and will have been part of a management effort to transform and grow a business and drive operational efficiencies. This person will have strategic planning skills to link the strategic goals of the company to resource allocation and performance expectations through robust forecasting/planning and understanding of the business. The new USPI CFO will have outstanding influencing and team leadership skills to drive a continued culture of financial discipline and excellence across the enterprise.

Qualifications:

  • Seasoned finance leader; 20+ years in finance roles with increasing responsibility, including top level finance (CFO) responsibilities in a significant public company undergoing transformation.
  • Operational Finance Experience; Hands-on experience working closely with the operations of a complex business.
  • Significant experience in strategic transactions (e.g. acquisitions, joint ventures) and revenue cycle management.
  • Experience in the healthcare sector is strongly preferred.
  • Strong academic credentials, including a university degree in Accounting, Finance or other relevant field. CPA and/or advanced degree (i.e., MBA or equivalent) is desirable.

Demonstrate a commercial and proactive mindset and deploy a combination of strong execution and collaborative behavior to reach and beat target goals, directing the company's overall financial operations to maximize revenue and profits by:

  • Setting continually higher goals for self and others, while reviewing performance and progress on a regular basis to ensure the team is achieving results and leveraging optimal systems and processes.
  • Demonstrating a passion for the company by focusing on the success of the organization and consistently acting out a sense of shared responsibility, sense of urgency and ownership for the success of the entire enterprise.
