Apogee is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to be located remotely or in Lakewood, CO. This effort supports the United States Geological Survey's Science Analytics and Synthesis program. The position will work on the Information Technology (IT) Operations team to support the deployment, hosting, and maintenance of applications and supporting services, infrastructure, and platform used by scientists in the field, researchers, and the general public. This position requires a strong and diverse technical skillset as well as experience supporting software development teams. Why work with us?

What you'll be doing:
Support software development teams to build, deploy, and maintain applications from development to production
Support a hybrid cloud/on-premises environment (AWS and VMware), services and infrastructure
Plan and support efforts to migrate existing on-prem deployments to AWS
Improve, extend, and maintain CI/CD automation and systems administration automation (GitLab)
Improve, extend, and maintain configuration management (Puppet, Ansible)
Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) pipelines and codebases using tools such as Terraform and CloudFormation
Support and maintain Red Hat Linux based operating systems - configuration management, automation, provisioning, patching
Work with product teams to design and deploy applications in support of the Department of Interior's "Cloud First" initiative and on design that impacts technology and scalability
Contribute to and participate in maintaining documentation and tickets
Monitor service availability and respond to outages
Attend and contribute meetings with different teams, both local and remote
Design and implement the IT platform, supporting services, and workflows for using it
Advise on technical decisions and long-term strategy involving the IT platform What you will need to have:
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience in a related role such as Linux Systems Administrator, DevOps role, or Site Reliability Engineer is preferred
Strong experience working with infrastructure and configuration management code, including Git workflows
Strong scripting experience - Shell, Python, Ruby is preferred
Strong Experience with AWS (EC2, S3, IAM, CloudWatch, CloudFront, EKS, ECS, ALB, RDS, OpenSearch, Lambda)
Experience using Infrastructure as Code tools and workflows - Terraform and CloudFormation is preferred
Experience with Docker, container orchestration, and development workflows - EKS, ECS, and Docker Swarm is preferred
Experience with monitoring and logging tools, such as CloudWatch, Graylog, ELK, Prometheus, Sensu
Experience with configuration management (Puppet, Ansible, Chef, Salt) - Puppet and Ansible preferred
Strong troubleshooting skills - process, log and error analysis, research, communication, and resolution
Strong understanding of web applications and common HTTP stacks - CloudFront, Nginx, and reverse proxy experience preferred
Experience supporting production web applications (Java, Python, and JavaScript frameworks preferred)
Experience deploying and supporting database services - RDS and PostgreSQL preferred
Must be able to communicate well with teams of varying technical levels, both written and verbal Compensation & Benefits:
The pay range for this position is $82,843 to $124,264 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This information is provided per the Colorado Equal Pay Act. Base pay information is based on market location. Applicants should apply via Apogee's careers site.
Apogee offers two medical plans, a high deductible health plan with a HRA and a traditional POS plan with co-pays, dental, vision, 401(k), life insurance, PTO, paid holidays, parental, military, and jury duty paid leaves. Regular part time employees scheduled for twenty-four or more hours per work week are eligible for benefits on a pro-rated basis.
This position is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus.
