Freese and Nichols is seeking an experienced engineer to serve as a tunnel/trenchless business development lead in FNI's Transmission & Utilities Practice focused on the pursuit of underground projects including tunneling, microtunneling, pipe jacking, horizontal directional drilling and other trenchless technology. This position will have three primary functions; business development, advising technical staff on projects, and developing the strategy for growth in the trenchless market. The position encompasses leadership of business development activities, including strategic pursuit planning, proposal preparation, client visits, and support of marketing activities. Candidate should have experience in project development and client relationship building with technical skills in either general civil design, hydrology & hydraulics, geotechnical, construction engineering, or structural disciplines. The Candidate will develop the strategy for growth in tunnel/trenchless market for FNI. The Candidate will provide support to the design teams assisting them with planning, management and quality control. Interest and ability to supervise, coach and mentor technical staff is desired. Occasional travel for professional development, client and project meetings is required. Additional responsibilities include: Build relationships with clients in all of FNI's regions, lead pre-positioning efforts of projects, build project teams, prepare proposals and presentations, lead shortlist interviews. Lead marketing activities including participation in professional societies, attend and present at professional conferences, conduct presentations for societies and/or clients and prepare articles for external and internal publications. Support tunneling and trenchless technology management and technical development within Freese and Nichols. Maintain effective communications with client, client's staff, and regulatory agencies. Remain engaged on existing and pending regulations and related technological advancements. Participate in the administration, interpretation, and implementation of contracts. Qualifications Additional Job Description 15+ years of experience in engineering/construction for tunnels, pipelines, trenchless and heavy civil structures. 20+ years preferred. 5+ years of experience in business development for trenchless and tunnel services, Experience in business development for other services such as water/wastewater transmission lines, utilities or dams is a plus, Experience in soft ground tunneling in clays and sands Education - B.S. degree in Engineering (minimum); M.S. in Engineering or Business Management (preferred). Excellent communication skills - both technical writing and oral. Ability to lead, motivate, and manage a team and oversee excellent quality of work. Commitment to technical excellence and the continuous professional development of self and responsible support staff. Texas professional engineering license (or the ability to become licensed in Texas within 6 months) required.
