Participates in direct patient care and other supportive activities under the direct delegation of the licensed nursing staff. Maintains and applies principles of safety. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Greets all patients entering the Emergency Department to provide customer service excellence. Observes the patients' physical, mental and emotional conditions and reports any changes to the nursing staff. Takes and records temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration rates in the EHR per policy. Reports all critical findings immediately to nursing staff. Works in coordination with nursing and providers to provide comfort measures as appropriate to patients in the Emergency Department waiting room. Acts as a liaison between patients and nursing staff for questions. Abides by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of Protected Health Information (PHI). Serves a population newborn through geriatric. Other duties may include: Functions in the Emergency Department as a Nurse Assistant and Phlebotomist as determined by department needs. Performs EKG testing. Collects specimens for tests as requested by the physician or other authorized provider including blood, urine, and feces. Requires successful completion of on the job phlebotomy training. Identifies patients and labels specimens required by Laboratory policies and procedures. Collects, processes, and delivers specimens to appropriate section of the Laboratory for testing. Maintains phlebotomy trays and outpatient draw station (restocking supplies, cleanliness, etc.) Pre-cleaning of indicated equipment prior to High Level Disinfection MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED: Multi-tasking and prioritization skills Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively Excellent customer service skills PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED: Medical terminology REQUIRED BEHAVIORAL SKILLS: Integrity: A personal presence which is characterized by a sense of honesty and the willingness to do the right thing. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Completion of a nurse assistant training program; OR Emergency medical technician (EMT) experience; OR Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-A) experience PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: One-year nurse assistant experience in an Emergency Department setting. REQUIRED LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION: Healthcare Provider BLS through the AHA or ARC before start date.
