Benefits Eligible Part-Time Benefit Eligible Work Shift Day (United States of America) Department 7013 Trauma Department The Trauma Registrar is responsible for compilation and abstraction of specific data to enter into the registry for the purposes of state and national guidelines/ regulations and performance improvement. QUALIFICATIONS License /Certification Required: Trauma ICD-10 coding certificate Experience Required: Experience in Microsoft Office (excel, word, power point). Preferred: Experience in registry programs Experience with ICD-10 and AIS injury coding Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Knowledge of medical terminology Computer system knowledge, including word processing and database use. Knowledge of ICD-10 coding required. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Essential Identifies patients to be entered into the registry database for the assigned program, Trauma Program or Stroke Program. Participates in concurrent and retrospective chart abstracting and data entry of program patients into the registry database. Has primary responsibility for maintaining the registry database in consultation with the Program Manager. Responsible for maintenance of the registry database, including installing updates from the software vendor. Downloads registry data to the identified state agency within 60 days of patient discharge or per state rules. Assists with providing patient follow-up information in a timely manner. Maintains liaison relationship with outreach institutions and physicians who refer patients to the program services. Assists with quality assessment of patient care for all identified program service patients, utilizing state, facility, and department guidelines. Collaborates with Program Manager to review all aspects of care per the program service PI. Assumes responsibility for the clinical evaluation and tracking of program service patients in conjunction with the Program Manager. Assists in orienting new employees to program service tasks. Assists with providing educational programs, including case studies, for program team members. Collaborates with department staff to update policies, procedures, and protocols necessary for the program service to function. Accountable for meeting and maintaining program service standards and policies. Provides statistical reports as requested. Assists in developing and meeting team goals. Interacts with intradepartmental and interdepartmental staff in a collaborative and cooperative manner thereby promoting employee morale. Assists with interdepartmental and interdisciplinary improvement efforts. Attends program related meetings as assigned. Demonstrates ability to code diagnoses using ICD-10 and AIS methodology. Applies initial QA screen to trauma patient charts using audit filters. Completes final retrospective injury coding to include ICD-10 and AIS scoring. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area. Performs other duties as assigned.
