Covenant HealthCare US:MI:SAGINAW 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, MONDAY - FRIDAY FULL TIME BENEFITED Summary: The Trauma Program Manager is a Registered Nurse that works collaboratively with the Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Registrar. The Trauma staff purpose is to develop, implement, and evaluate systems and programs for the purpose of delivering optimal trauma patient care and to maintain the Trauma standards of the American College of Surgeons. The Trauma Program Manager demonstrates excellent customer service performance in that his/her attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant HealthCare and the commitment to Extraordinary Care for Every Generation. Responsibilities: The Trauma Program Manager is a registered nurse responsible for developing a cost-effective system of care for adult and pediatric trauma patients and their families throughout the continuum of care. Responsibilities include: expert practitioner, development and implementation of program initiatives, management of Performance Improvement (PI) initiatives, clinical education, research, and community outreach. Major areas of focus include implementation of an effective trauma response team, treatment protocols, communications with external providers, the establishment and coordination of a trauma service quality improvement plan, provision of local and regional educational offerings related to trauma, coordination and support of trauma research, and development of clinical and operational standards for the trauma service. Serves as expert practitioner and role model in providing quality nursing care to trauma patient and their families in accordance with the American College of Surgeon's (ACS) Committee of Trauma Standards for Care of the Injured Patient. Predicts, monitors, and evaluates patient outcomes during the continuum of care. Health care systems as related to the trauma patient are continuously evaluated and modified for the delivery of optimal care for the trauma patient. Assists in the data collection for the Trauma Registry as related to the trauma service patient. Serves as a role model for nursing staff. Serves as an advocate on behalf of the patient and family. Ensures compliance with all ACS criteria as outlined in the Resource for Optimal Care guidelines. Coordinates and integrates the clinical and administrative factors related to the care of the Trauma Patients. Supervision of the Trauma Registrars, APP's, Injury Prevention Specialist, PI Nurse Manager. Develop collaborative relationship with other departments to facilitate and support quality trauma care. Manage, as appropriate, the operational, personnel, and financial aspects of the Trauma Program. Assists in interpretation and implementation of established policies and procedures: makes recommendations for revisions and assists with updating policies and procedures. Promotes Customer Service. Participates in planning and directing departmental goals and objectives related to the care of injured adults and children. Remains current in research related to the trauma patient populations and trauma systems. Interprets and applies current research. Participates in ongoing research relevant to the trauma patient. Plan, coordinates, and evaluates ongoing trauma-related educational programs for nursing staff. Participates in educational programs. Serves as a liaison at the local, state, regional, and national levels in areas regarding adult and pediatric trauma. Supports activities that inform the community on aspects of pediatric and adult trauma. Utilizes multiple resources, Trauma Registry, trauma personnel, trauma rounds, and staff communications to identify performance improvement issues related to delivery of trauma care. Trauma Program Manager will work directly with the Trauma Medical Director, TPOPP, Trauma Peer Review to create system changes for optimal trauma care. Works with Covenant's departments to facilitate good communication within Covenant's local community and hospitals in our region and throughout Michigan. Offers feedback on trauma transfers from outlying facilities, extends educational opportunities to medical personnel, including Trauma Nursing Core Course. Other information: EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Bachelor Science of Nursing required. Masters Degree within clinical specialty, preferred. Current Michigan RN licensure. Additional professional or advanced certification/registration in applicable area desired. Three to Five years experience in clinical nursing with at least two of the three years in the area of trauma. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES RN with Trauma Clinical Care Experience, TNCC Instructor or ATCN instructor. Evidence of continuing professional growth, membership in a professional nursing organization. Demonstrates Leadership Skills. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Analytical skills in order to gather information, reach appropriate conclusions and make recommendations. Basic computer skills in data entry and word processing, and knowledge of common software packages. Educator Trauma Registry experience. Demonstrates ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships and communication. Demonstrates ability to accept and implement change. Demonstrates ability for problem solving. Management experience preferred. Strong organization skills with the ability to work independently and take initiative. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS Ability to maintain punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
