Description Under general supervision the Traffic Signal Technician position ensures the city's traffic signal systems and related devices to move traffic in a safe and efficient manner. Posted range is the starting salary. Pay rate offered is based on experience. Examples of Duties Performs traffic signal field operations by patrolling, checking, and repairing intersection equipment daily; constructs, tests, and installs traffic signal hardware; monitors intersections; performs tests and maintains intersection equipment; maintains roadway lighting systems; provides after hour support; responds and schedules repairs to system; responds to power outages. Handles special events by assisting with work zones and closures; monitors intersections during high traffic functions; monitors customers when using city facilities; responds to city emergencies; assists with natural disasters and street maintenance during inclement weather. Assists other departments by helping with tree removal or trimming; assists with aerial lighting issues; provides electrical support for construction projects' assists with signs and markings. Experience and Training Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. Some college preferred. One (1) year experience in construction, electrical, traffic signal maintenance, or a closely related field. Traffic signal experience is preferred. Certificates and Licenses Required Possession of a Class A Commercial Texas Driver's License or ability to obtain within 90 days. Possession of I.M.S.A. Work Zone Certification or ability to obtain in 6 months, depending on when testing is available, not to exceed 12 months. Possession of I.M.S.A. Traffic Signal Technician Level I Certification or ability to obtain in 6 months, depending on when testing is available, not to exceed 12 months.
