Job Description Under immediate supervision, the Maintenance Worker performs manual labor involved with the construction, repair, and maintenance of City facilities, or service and operation, such as refuse collection, brush collection, street cleaning, sign installation, or water and sewer installation and/or repair. Job Responsibilities 1. Loads and/or unloads materials, such as trash, garbage, and other materials onto a truck. 2. Assists in cleaning equipment, hand tools and trucks. 3. This position requires driving a motor vehicle and equipment. Incumbent may perform minor maintenance and repairs to tools, equipment, or trucks. 4. May operate equipment attached to a truck when working on a project, such as street repair, picking up refuse or brush, or cleaning sewers by utilizing a pressure washer. 5. Performs manual work (i.e. installing posts, pipes, sewer lines, cleaning streets and other work). 6. Operates department equipment and must follow all safety rules and regulations. 7. Assists on other job related work when assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Minimum Requirements - 1. Job requires an accredited high school diploma or GED equivalent. 2. Job requires a valid Texas Class C Drivers License. 3. No previous work experience is required. 4. Must have basic knowledge of hand tools to perform normal work as assigned. 5. Must be able to perform heavy manual labor under conditions involving extremes heat and cold. 6. Must be able to follow orders and work efficiently and productively. 7. Must be able to operate department equipment safely and effectively. Physical Requirements 1. Generally, work is scheduled for normal duty hours, a five-day 40 hour week and is subject to recall. 2. Employee works outdoors in all weather conditions, with exposure to possible unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. 3. Employee is expected to drive to and work at various city locations. Additional Information 1. This position has no supervisory responsibilities. 2. This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug and alcohol testing. 3. Required to work during emergencies, weekends, holidays, or as needed (i.e. storms, hurricanes, etc). 4. Required to be on stand-by or on call (waiting to be engaged to work) when necessary.
