Assists in performing various jobs as they relate to construction, maintenance, and installation of traffic signals, sign and paint with in the Traffic Operations Department. (Seasonal Position during construction season.) ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive. Performs the construction and installation of traffic signals/paint/sign equipment in public right of way. Performs the installation of work zone traffic control devices to provide a safe work area when working in the public right of way. Duties may require manual tasks using shovels, picks, rakes, and other tools and equipment as required to perform assigned construction and maintenance. Operates vehicles to transport people, tools and material to and from various job sites. Performs other related duties, sign replacement, stencil painting, red curb painting, and other duties as assigned. Will receive instruction and can perform work without direct supervision. QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the necessary functions of this job. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Ability to understand and carry out work assignments in a safe, satisfactory, and timely manner. Ability to operate mobile equipment, such as small lift trucks, sign truck, stencil truck, small paint machine, and chase trucks. Ability to work adjusted work schedule. Ability to operate various hand tools, jack hammers, stripers, grinders, small paint (push) machine and other Tools. Ability to read and comprehend written material and express ideas clearly and concisely. Ability to work in all kinds of weather conditions may have to do some heavy lifting and work from various heights. Ability to perform and install work under standard specification. Ability to install and remove work zone control devices in the public right of way. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school graduate or equivalent (GED). Or any combination of education and work related experience. Must possess a valid driver's license. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The employee is required to stand, walk, stoop, and use hands to operate hand and power tools, controls and other motorized equipment. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Must be able to pass a Fit for Duty test.
