Description Boulder County Public Works Department is seeking to hire a Traffic EngineerIII. The Traffic Engineer (Engineer III) performs and is accountable for complex and specialized professional and technical engineering duties, including a wide variety of design, review and administrative functions requiring independent judgement and action. The position manages the traffic program which includes preparing traffic control plans; managing signing; designing and approving pavement marking, signals, guardrail, and speed radar installations; gathering and preparing special studies; managing operation and maintenance checks for traffic signals, speed radar, and railroad quiet zones. The Traffic Engineer reviews traffic requests and concerns, designs solutions, and prepares reports and paperwork. This position supervises professional and technical direct reports. The engineering team exudes synergy and support with integrity and fun. The Engineering Division, within the Public Works Department, provides quality multimodal transportation infrastructure for the residents of Boulder County by maintaining, designing and constructing shared-use paths, roadways, bridges, drainage structures, sidewalks, signals, signing and striping. This is a full-time, benefitedposition.This position will work Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm. This position will work remoteMonday, Wednesday and Friday, and in-personon Tuesdays and Thursdays out of th St., Boulder, Colorado. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position isexempt. Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work. Hiring Salary Range: $103,896.00 - $126,768.00 Annually Tentative Hiring Timeline: First Round Interviews: April 15th Second Round Interviews: April 24th Reference Check: April 29th New employees receive an 80-hour bank of vacation at the time of hire, in addition to 8 hours of both vacation and medical leave accruals each month. Examples of Duties Project Development Prepares signing, striping, temporary traffic control, speed radar, and guardrail construction plans and specifications to ensure compliance with standards and project schedule Develops and implements basic traffic signal timingparameters Reviews construction plans for accuracy and provides comments to other functional areas Gathers data such as sight distance, safety, no passing, infrastructure inventory, before/after, crash, etc. for completing special studies and reports Analyzes available traffic data for reporting, planning, and study purposes Updates and maintains crash information/ databases Responds, orally or in writing, to inquiries/ requests by translating technical information into responses easily understood by the public Prepares signal timing, signing and pavement marking work orders for traffic modifications performed by maintenance division or contractor within set deadlines Assists with implementing traffic control plans in the field Conducts field reviews to assure guardrail, speed radar, signing, and striping (permanent and temporary) are implemented and conform to work orders, project objectives, and/or specifications Coordinates projects with municipal, state, and regional agencies Confers with private engineers, utility personnel, ditch company representatives and others regarding project design Acts as county representative of Denver Regional Council of Governments Regional Traffic Operations Committees Reviews traffic design recommendations relevant to county documents Performs development traffic study review for staff in Community Planning and Permitting Department Supervision/Administration Conducts employee evaluations, advises employeesconcerning performance, and recommends personnel actions in the areas of hiring, termination, promotion, and discipline Supervisesthe development of designs, plans, reports, studies, bid documents, specifications, and cost estimates for construction of projects completed by subordinates Manages assigned budgets Models equityand upholds the Boulder County Board of County Commissioners' prioritization of equity and justice Performs related duties, as required May be reassigned in emergency situations Required Qualifications PLEASE NOTE: When completing your application describe all relevant education and experience, as applications are assessed based on the required qualifications listed. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of abachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a civil engineering or a closely related field; AND five years (eight preferred) of civil engineering or closely related experience, including two years in a supervisory capacity whether with direct reports or supervision of consultant teams from other companies or agencies.
