JOB OPENING FOR A TEMPORARY Weed Control Specialist AT THE Washington County Public Works Department Seasonal/ NO BENEFITS $20.98 HRLY Assists with the county-wide noxious weed control program as defined in the Utah Title 4 Chapter 17, The Noxious Weed Act and Utah Pesticide Control Act. Assists with spraying and weed control projects according to the daily work assignments; surveys county properties, public and private, for infestations of noxious weeds; informs private owners to potential infestations on their property, and their responsibility to eradicate the same; obtains permission to enter property for inspections. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: Graduation from high school plus one (1) year of specialized training in chemistry, biology, plant science, horticulture, environmental science, entomology or some other related field; AND Two (2) years of experience in weed control or similar work providing knowledge of herbicides, chemicals, and combinations of chemicals for effective weed and pest eradication. OR An equivalent combination of education and experience. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Considerable knowledge of the types of noxious weeds present in Washington County; types of herbicides most effective on the varieties of weed and the methods most effective in spraying for their eradication; State noxious weed laws and appropriate city and County ordinances and the procedures described therein; working knowledge of environmental issues and regulations (state & federal); EPA regulations and guidelines. Ability to detect various weeds and determine the procedure for their eradication; understand scientific reports on weed resistance to herbicides; communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Special Qualifications: Must possess and maintain a valid Utah Driver's license. Must be able to comply with applicable county and departmental policies and safety standards. Must obtain a non-commercial applicator's license for weed control, within thirty (30) days of employment. Only applications submitted online will be accepted.
