ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT The mission of Health Services at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) is to provide quality healthcare to SAIC students and to encourage students to focus on their physical and emotional well-being. Health Services is staffed by board-certified nurse practitioners and registered nurses who offer basic medical care for minor injuries and illnesses. Health Services manages student health information including required immunization records. The Health Services staff also focuses on health promotion and education and can provide referrals to appropriate off-campus health care providers when necessary. ABOUT THE POSITION: Under the direction of the Director of Health Services, the registered nurse provides nursing care and health education for the SAIC student population. RESPONSIBILITIES: Delivers direct health care services to students involving triage, evaluation, and management of minor illnesses and injuries consistent with the nursing process and appropriate to SAIC Health Services setting and resources. Applies the nursing process to provide developmentally appropriate, culturally sensitive, and student-centered nursing care to individuals served within the diverse campus community. Performs point of care testing, administers medications, immunizations, and/or treatments based on standing orders established by SAIC nurse practitioners. Provides health education, health promotion, and discharge follow up to students. Refers students to SAIC nurse practitioners and off-campus medical providers, as needed. Maintains accurate medical records and health information according to relevant legal guidelines as well as utilization statistics for reporting and quality improvement purposes. Provides input to the Director of Health Services Services on matters related to nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards, laws, and regulations of the State of Illinois. Collaborates with the Director of Health Services to develop and maintain a schedule for seeing students that maximizes staffing resources. Performs related duties as requested, delegated, or assigned. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This role requires the ability to effectively communicate, observe students' physical health states, and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity and examination room equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment, examination room, and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
