Temporary Laborer

Position Summary Works under direct supervision to perform work assignments for the abatement of mosquitoes. Pay Grade: 41H Minimum Qualifications 100% - 1. Two (2) years of work experience preferably in an outdoor environment; and 2. High school diploma or a GED. 3. Experience in a vector control program preferred. 4. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Develops a knowledge of mosquito identification, basic mosquito biology and control through training. 2. Performs duties as part of an integrated pest management approach to mosquito control. 3. Applies the application of larviciding and adulticiding to areas affective by mosquitoes. 4. Performs manual work such as removing trash and tires from treatment sites, ditches and natural waterways. 5. Operates small tools and equipment (shovels, picks and power equipment such as weed eaters, brush cutters and handheld sprayers) to clear and clean ditches and natural waterways. 6. Removes and trims vegetation along ditches and natural waterways. 7. Performs other related duties as required or directed. KSA's KSAs - 1. Knowledge of the names and composition of insecticides as well as their modes of action in killing mosquitoes. 2. Knowledge of mosquito diversity, biology, and ecology. 3. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. 4. Ability to work cooperatively with coworkers and the public. 5. Ability to physically perform assigned tasks. 6. Ability to identify common mosquito pests and vectors by eye in the field. 7. Ability to read and understand pesticide labels and vector control program policies and procedures. Physical Requirements 1. Must be physically able to perform tasks such as lift/lower, push/pull objects weighing 25-50 lbs. 2. Must be able to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions. Special Requirements 1. Must possess a valid Tennessee driver license or secure one by date of employment. 2. Must be able to work shifts, weekends, and on-call.
