Requisition Id 13047 Overview: We are seeking a Nuclear Operations Advanced Technology Technician who will focus on production, handling, and packaging of a variety of nuclear materials, as well as performing material handling equipment setup, troubleshooting, and acceptance testing within remote operations environments. Supporting the largest radioisotope production and research portfolio within the Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science for Isotope and Production, as well as extensive isotope production programs for the DOE Office of Nuclear Energy and National Nuclear Security Administration, this position will grant you the opportunity to work with rare materials, develop in-demand material handling skills, and train with the unique facilities and equipment at ORNL. This position resides in the REDC Material Operations Group in the Isotope Processing and Manufacturing Division in the Isotope Science and Engineering Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). Major Duties/Responsibilities: Under the guidance of research and technical staff, setup, test, and maintain prototype remote electro-mechanical and chemical processing equipment. Document activities and findings.
Following documented procedures, operate electro-mechanical and chemical processing equipment and handle nuclear materials within shielded hot cell facilities using remote mechanical manipulators and by hand within glove boxes.
Assembling, testing, integrating, and operating process/production equipment for new and enduring remote operations with radioactive materials within hot cells, shielded caves, and glove boxes at REDC and other facilities.
Fabrication and assembly of long-form targets and short-form capsules for irradiation in HFIR.
Ensure compliance with Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H) and QA requirements.

Basic Qualifications: A minimum of 2 years of experience of relevant technical experience, with demonstrated knowledge of safe handling of chemicals and hazardous materials. Ability to work and communicate effectively with diverse teams of engineers, scientists, and technicians. Preferred Qualifications: A.S. or A.A.S. degree in chemical, mechanical, nuclear, or industrial engineering technology.
Manufacturing experience in an R&D and/or a production environment.
Electro-mechanical fabrication experience.
Experience with work control, conduct of operations in an R&D or production environment.
Experience operating with master-slave manipulators, or within glove boxes is preferred.
Experience following NQA-1 protocols is preferred.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.
Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.
