Job Type Full-time Description ALEX - Alternative Experts (ALEX) is hiring a Technical Writer (TW) to support communications and customer service at the Pentagon Customer Assistance Center (PCAC), Special Events, and Permits Office. The PCAC is often the first stop inside the Pentagon for new employees or visitors. Providing the best and most professional Customer Service and Special Events Coordination to staff the PCAC and Special Events office is essential to mission success. The TW is primarily responsible for desktop publishing activities supporting the Pentagon Building Circular (BC) Program, informing Pentagon Building occupants of events and activities that are of interest to or impact Pentagon building occupants. The TW is primarily responsible for writing and editing Pentagon Building Circulars using provided formats and the DoD Manual for Written Material. With government official approval, the TW posts the BC to the WHS Building Circular webpage and disseminates the BC, through email transmittal, to Pentagon Building occupants. When not supporting the BC program, the TW aids the Special Events Program Manager in writing other documents such as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Policy Memoranda, and other documents as required supporting the Special Events mission. Requirements Consolidate Building Circular materials photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate the event or activity for review and Building Manager signature. According to set standards regarding deadlines, clarity, and terminology.
Post BC to the WHS Building Circular website and transmitted by email to Pentagon building occupants at a minimum of 14 calendar days prior to events.
Maintain Building Circular metrics, records and files of work and revisions. Edit, standardize, or make changes to Building Circulars prepared by other writers or designated Pentagon personnel. Assists building occupants in designing information in a clear and concise, non-technical manner for publication.
Support other writing tasks as assigned, to include, but not limited to Standard Operating Procedures and Policy Memoranda.
Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of the department/contract.
Comprehensive knowledge of regulations and policies affecting government publications, presentations, and correspondence. Skill in writing and editing a variety of documents in accordance with the DoD Manual for Written Material: Correspondence Management, NUMBER 5110.04-M-V1 & V2, dated October 26, 2010 or the most current version.
Ability to effectively communicate and interact with diverse audiences, including senior DoD officials, and engineering and construction project management personnel to gather and coordinate information from subject matter experts.
Use of computer software, to include advanced skills in Adobe Acrobat Professional, Microsoft Office Suite and Contribute and reference materials used in the performance of writing DoD correspondence, editing and records management.
Strong written and verbal communications and experience working with content in multiple mediums.
Strong experience owning an end-to-end documentation creation process. Excellent planning and attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects in a fast-paced, changing environment. A positive attitude, willing to jump in and tackle new challenges. Establish team policies and procedures, conforming to existing styles, policies, and procedures. Excellent communication and teamwork skills, including willingness and ability to consult with subject matter experts from engineering, support, and product management.
Must be able to independently create, enter, save, retrieve, edit, copy, paste, file and present text and spreadsheets. Must be able to prepare official letters and memoranda in accordance with current DoD guidance.Preferred Skills and Qualifications: Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in a similar position. Certified Special Event Professional; Certified Meeting Professional; Certified Meeting Planner Program; or undergoing concierge training.
Experience with MAXIMO database.
Navigational experience at the Pentagon.Education and Certifications: Bachelor's degree in a technical field.
