Come Join Our Team Cognosante is seeking to fill a Technical Writer role in support of the Joint Program Management Office (JPMO)for the Department of Homeland Security. The financial systems modernization (FSM) Joint Program Management Office (JPMO) was established to manage, from a portfolio perspective, all FSM programs across DHS. The FMS JPMO is responsible for governance and successful execution, maintenance scheduling, and risk management for all DHS FSM programs and projects. FSM JPMO functions include information technology (IT) management, business transformation, portfolio management, acquisition and program management, and financial management. What is the position? The Technical Writer will focus on producing new written material, rewrites and/or edits technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications. This role will produce clear communicational, technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences. Subject knowledge is acquired by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals. Oversee preparation of illustrative materials, select drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts. What will I get to do? Support the creation of technical documents required by the JPMO
Plan, develop, organize, write, and edit documentation
Conduct quality review of materials.
Incorporate user feedback into technical documents and support the review process
Provide expert technical writing advice across the JPMO
Develop Project Management Framework documents
Develop, review and update current Standard Operating Procedure for technical documents and existing SOPs
Develop JPMO technical templates for all document types repeatedly or routinely created
Translates complex data into user-friendly text for print and electronic publications, such as technical journals, user and training manuals, government proposals, websites and podcasts.
Gathers information through research, statistical reports and interviews with technical staff.
Develops cataloging systems, and maintains records, files, electronic media and archiving of information for publications.
Assists in preparing material for technical seminars and business forums.
May be called upon to assist in technical or business presentations in such meetings as business or customer needs require. Selects or recommends use of layouts, graphics, drawings, tables, exhibits, illustrations, charts, or storyboards to amplify or clarify publications objectives. What qualifications do I need? US Citizen able to pass a government level background check and obtain a Public Trust
Bachelor's degree or higher in English, Computer Science, Information Management, Systems Science, Engineering, Business, Math or a related field or
6+ years of relevant writing experience preferably on a Government Contract
Strong 508 compliance working experience. Proficient using 365 Microsoft Suite; Word, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook OneNote, Access and Publisher. Visio experience highly desired.
Strong quality control experience and detail oriented.
Able to work in a fast paced remote environment juggling multiple tasks simultaneously. Candidates that do not meet the required qualifications will not be considered . What additional characteristics will help me thrive? Strong attention to detail
