The Technical Manager provides support to Operations, Sales, and Customers in manufacturing process and product improvement. These improvements span quality, safety, cost reduction, productivity, and new market opportunities. This critical leadership position reports to the Director of Technical & Quality Systems and manages area Process Engineers.

Specific duties include but are not limited to:

Lead in the ongoing improvement of manufacturing processes in melting, casting, hot rolling, cold rolling, coil finishing, and coil coating. This work will require deliberate management of change to minimize risks while achieving company objectives. It includes proactive as well as reactive measures.

Manage and develop area Process Engineers to ever increasing levels of knowledge and competency. Teach/coach other company personnel to the betterment of the organization as appropriate.

Active participation and leadership in daily operations.

Active participation in customer issues in close teamwork with the Quality Manager, Customer Service, and Sales.

Shared responsibility for root cause determination, Corrective and Preventive Action.

Ongoing maintenance and development of Process FMEAs to ensure effective process controls are identified and implemented. Ensure active monitoring of critical process parameters to assist in control.

Monthly and other reports to Management as required.

Establish and maintain documentation of process capabilities. Propose equipment improvement opportunities. Initiate CAPEX expenditures as appropriate.

Updating of QMS procedures in cooperation with the Quality Manager and Area Managers.

Ensure all activities by self and subordinates are performed in a safe manner. Fully support Operations in safety improvements.

Assist in the determination and achievement of annual Quality Objectives.

Ensure all activities within technical areas of responsibility comply with company policies, procedures, and the Quality Management System.





  • Demonstrated history of problem-solving ability, teamwork, self-initiative, and integrity.
  • Expertise in hot and cold rolling, flatness control, annealing, leveling, coating including their metallurgical, cost, and quality aspects.
  • BS in Materials Science, Metallurgical, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering
  • 10 years minimum experience in the manufacture of aluminum rolled products.
  • 2 years minimum experience in resolving customer complaints.
  • Proficiency in Excel and WORD applications is required. Statistical and Six Sigma proficiencies are preferred. A Six Sigma Black Belt certification is preferred.
  • Ability to learn and work within data management systems in cooperation with IT, Engineering and Quality personnel.
  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills at all levels.

Salary range: $130,000 to $180,000 (Dependent on Qualifications)
