Spire is a State-Approved Special Education school, grades 8 -12, for students with social and/or emotional challenges that impact the student's ability to thrive in a typical academic setting. Our model of individualized social-emotional wellness plans and our small group academic setting makes us unique. Candidates for the position must have a demonstrated passion for teaching and a collaborative style to work on a team prepared to meet the individualized needs of each student enrolled in our school.
RESPONSIBILITIES WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
Develop IEP objectives for each student and attend meetings if the schedule allows
Record data accurately and chart individual student information
Develop and adapt lesson plans to supplement the curriculum
Implement specified teaching methods as required
Grade and provide feedback to students work
Monitor students at all times
Attend weekly staff meetings, staff training, and professional development opportunities
Assess students as needed
Maintain relationship with parents regarding student achievement
Perform administrative duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS WHAT YOU BRING
Bachelor's degree
Candidates must hold / or be eligible for a valid Connecticut state teacher certification in Culinary Arts or equivalent. Preferred certification in FACS
Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching special education student populations with social-emotional challenges (preferred)
Familiar with the IEP process and the collection of progress monitoring data
Create and maintain an orderly and aesthetic learning environment that accounts for students' social, emotional, and executive functioning needs
Commitment to helping children of all abilities reach their full potential
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative, enthusiastic style to fit with our small, but dedicated team
