Successful candidate will have a strong technical background in multistate tax research, consulting, and compliance. Ideally, the candidate will have experience in enhancing, upgrading, or implementing a tax engine such as Vertex. This role requires creative problem-solving skills, a high level of integrity, strong written and oral communication skills for dealing with government auditors and company personnel, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team while independently owning responsibilities. The candidate should be able to effectively prioritize and handle multiple tasks.

Bachelor's degree in accounting (or the equivalent) is required, with some accounting experience preferred. The required skills, knowledge and abilities are typically acquired through a minimum of five years of progressively responsible tax experience. Vertex software and advanced Excel experience highly desired with SAP experience and Alteryx experience a plus.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

1. Assist with sales and use tax audits and appeals, including audit planning, gathering, preparing and analyzing documentation, researching tax laws and legal rulings, responding to requests from taxing authorities, interfacing with auditors, and coordinating with outside consultants, on an as needed basis.

2. Work with Billing and Contracts departments to ensure sales tax is billed properly and work with Accounts Payable, Accounting and Purchasing departments to ensure use tax is accrued properly. Review customer contract language and provide recommendations to protect NECAM from tax liability (ex. sales, Hawaii GET) exposure. Review vendor contracts, statements of work, purchase requests, fixed asset requests, etc. for proper determination of taxability based on where the products/services will be used, ship to address, etc.

3. Assist with sales/use tax compliance function including the reconciliation and analysis of "tax balance sheet accounts.

4. Participate in projects including, but not limited to, the enhancement of major sales/use tax engines such as Vertex.

5. Develop strong relationships with field operations, corporate operations, and other accounting, financial, and regulatory groups to assist in decision making and resolve

complex sales and use tax issues. Interact with general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, and other personnel to identify and resolve tax issues as they arise.

6. Manage and perform research of current state and local tax laws (CCH).

7. Work with third party provider of certificate management as needed.

9. Provide input for the Vertex O Series tax engine to ensure up-to-date tax category mapping and exempt customer information.
